Right so I love updating my phone, especially my Samsung stuff, but after the news of the s7/edge I just don't think there is enough happening to make me interested.

So they take away my fav feature IR Blaster! (kids always lose the remote !daily use!)

It has water proofing, (don't ever get my phone wet)

Faster processor/graphics, (The S6 seems pretty fast, games seem pretty good already)

Bigger battery (great to have this, does make the phone heaver than the S6 though!)

Camera (Now everyone talks about this like they take photos at night time! not interested)

Screen is the same tech, just an amoled feature of always on.

Water cooling! (that's just cool bragging rights!)

SD card (I do like this, but not needed when you have the 64GB S6 variety)

The LG G5 how ever seems a pretty good innovative device, it kinda appeals to my geek side more that this S7 can.

Is the S7 trying to be like a certian Apple's prodigy i.e not innovative (just safe) or is the smart phone world running out of ideas and at its peak?

Seems like you have thought it all out and understand the differences just fine. If it doesn't provide any value, don't upgrade. Not sure the purpose of the thread, are you wanting us to talk you into spending money you don't see the value in spending, for any particular reason? :)

The purpose of this thread is to see if I am alone in this type of thinking or am I being to hard on Samsung and asking to much of their flagship phone.

I gave up on flagship phones a year ago when i realized a $300 phone could do all that i needed, the core technology is getting so good that it becomes all about $$$ and diminishing returns

I agree. Thanks to players like Oppo, Meizu, Huawei, 1+ the phones have similar features than the S7 and price wise are great value.

Ps. If you can get over the chinese malware listening in hidden in the OS lol!

Probably no worse than what Google or Samsung already have sitting in there.

No, you don't need an S7, yes lots of other people do

Each new model is ever only an incremental improvement on previous, the camera and shiny back would have me sold if it weren't for my utter contempt for touchwizz

Agreed. I currently have a 64GB SGS6 as my main phone.

Though I did pre-order the SGS7 (with incl 128GB Micro-SD) from PB Tech yesterday. The main things driving me were:

Must haves:

- keeping up with Samsung's development of VR

- I take a lot of photos / video. It's an important thing to me. I want the new camera, to see if 12mp with the new sensor is better than 16mp with the old sensor. If it isn't, you'll see my SGS7 on TradeMe shortly.

Nice to haves:

- I want the Micro-SD. Having 32GB internal and 128GB external appeals....even if I can't unify it with the Marchmallow feature that allows this (at the cost of not being able to - easily - remove the Micro-SD).

- waterproof is good....though i did manage to drop my SGS6 into the cat's watebowl recently (for about 5 seconds) and absolutely nothing happened. All good.

- better battery? I don't care. I have 3 x external 10,400MAh powerpacks and could use my phone non-stop, screen lit, doing mobile data constantly for about 24 hours without worrying about power. I don't know why this is a concern for people. The solution is both obvious and cheap.

- Faster / better? Sign me up.

I'm close to that point. But not quite there yet. The sheer speed edge of the new, shiny flagship phone is addictive. I got my daughter an SGS6 to replace her SGS4 and she just about fell over, bowled by how much faster it was for everything she does. It's a bit like flying Business Class vs Economy. Both get you there.......but once you've done a 12 hour flight in a lie-down bed it's REALLY HARD to go back to sitting up all night in an uncomfortable, circulation-choking economy seat next to the smelly fat smoker overflowing onto your seat, who mumbles and snores (that was the LAST time I ever flew long-haul economy).

Flagship phones are Business Class. You buy them if you see the value. You don't...if you don't. There is no right and wrong. :-)

Having just upgraded from an S3 to an S6 (not Edge), I'll chime in:

1. The price of the S7 is prohibitive... I just don't need the latest and greatest that much

2. I like the IR blaster.

3. I wish the S6 had more memory and/or a microSD card slot

4. I wish the S6 had a bigger battery.

5. Wireless charging is nice

6. I wish the fingerprint scanner was better

I really don't care particularly about any of the other changes between the S3 and S6 and S7.

I might buy a secondhand S7 when the S8 is released. And keep the S6 as the world's smartest rechargeable WiFi-enabled TV remote.
