I have seen full page prints from photos taken by Wellington photographer Woolf and they were amazing.

Not saying they're rubbish, just that given the hype around the camera, is still falls behind the S7

Thank you. I suspect that might be the case.

Although it is promising to hear that Leica is part of the camera development. I must say the phone looks good.

Had a good look at a 2D shop today. It's official, Huawei make the best hardware today, bar none. Lovely phone in hand.

But the UI is a mess, hardly recognised it as android. But I guess you can use the Google now launcher.

On another note, interesting seeing the number of Huawei P9 already on Trade Me - or even here on Geekzone, at discounted prices. My guess is a lot of people bought these devices on pre-order just to get the Huawei Watch free and then sell the smartphone itself...

I'm one of the listings on TM. The other listing is another GZ member.

I only took the plunge because the deal included a $250 Noel Leeming gift card as well. I don't think it's going to be easy to sell the phone right now because most people would've preordered to get the watch. Hopefully the demand will increase in the next few weeks. If anyone wants a cheap P9 then get in touch : )

Gee that is a big call, I certainly wouldn't say I was THAT impressed.

I had a look at one in the Lambton Quay Spark store yesterday. I'm still rocking an HTC One M7 but will upgrade soon. I'm waiting to get my hands on an HTC 10 to see how much I like it but as local carriers don't seem to be in a hurry to stock them then the Huawei P9 is a contender, particularly as it looks to be a few hundred dollars under other manufacturer's premium handsets.

I was impressed with the camera in-store and images were very sharp (but remember my frame of reference is the underwhelming original ultrapixel camera). There are a lot of settings buried in the camera app and I imagine you could get some great results once you're familiar with them all. Is it just me, or does anyone else wish they had put the actual Leica logo on the back of the phone - preferably in red - instead of just writing the brand name in a generic typeface?

No, the EmUI skin isn't great, but I wouldn't say it was really awful either. Well, no worse than earlier versions of TouchWiz I looked at (on a Samsung Galaxy S3, from memory) and as others have said, it's not hard to install a different launcher.

After looking in-store I did some googling of P9 reviews and they seem mostly positive, but one said there is no gorilla glass on the screen or covering the camera lenses - it's just regular glass, and that while the reviewer was reasonably careful it did get a few scratches. The P9 (and some other devices) have a one year replacement for damaged glass and I wondered whether Huawei had to do this because it's not toughened. If so, that could be a deal breaker for me - I usually look after my devices pretty well but (as you can tell from the opening paragraph) a phone will have to last me a lot more than a year - usually around three - and I'd hate to be stuck with a big scratch, particularly over the camera lens(es), after the glass replacement policy ran out. Can anyone confirm?

A 4 year old phone isn't really a great frame of reference there champ.

YMMV, but I definitely prefer the hardware design over my S7 (though comment above about non-toughened glass, if true, would possibly be a deal breaker for me if I was in the market for a new phone, which I'm not).
