Sounds like Android 6  fixes the problem I've now just got to figure out how to  update the phone to Android 6!

Charge battery, connect to WiFi then:

Settings > about phone > system updates

Tbh if it was available you probably would have seen a notification already. Moto E 2015 (2nd gen) has it apparently in other markets don't know nz.

Maybe it will come one day. But more likely you will have to look at CyanogenMod for Moto E, or get a new one or previous gen Moto G on special.
