ANZ goMoney and ASB Virtual use a 3rd party SDK to implement wallet functionality (most likely the Bell ID SDK). In the case of the ANZ goMoney, they support just 37 android devices - most likely the devices that are sold by the carriers in NZ. ANZ goMoney doesn't support the Google Pixel phone yet.

For Android Pay, Google tests and qualifies every Android 4.4+ device, which means there are thousands of devices already compatible. Android Pay is also in Chrome v53, so for those shopping websites that use the new JS PaymentRequest API, you'll be able to securely purchase things online without entering credit card numbers, and no worries about your card details being stolen.

So I assume google collects a cut just as Apple with Apple Pay?? So unless theres a huge difference in %%% theres no excuse not to launch of Apple Pay as well.

I have a Nexus 6 on stock 7.0 ??

I think it's because my bootloader is unlocked (phone used to be rooted but I went back to stock a while ago.)
Relocking the bootloader would wipe my phone ??

Just read on Stuff that credit card support from BNZ will come in early 2017.

You can lock your bootloader safely, but unlocking it after that will wipe your device.

This is correct. However, there are some workarounds - a custom kernel (eg: Franco's kernel) or Magisk (v9+) can hide your bootloader state, thereby passing the SafetyNet check and allowing Android Pay, Pokémon Go etc to work again.

What's the difference between this and something like ANZ GoMoney (which I've been using and loving since returning to android recently :) ) or ASB Virtual? Just that it's the default android\google app instead of a custom app?

ANZ in Oz had their own app for about a month, then they shut it down and switched to Android Pay. I've been using it daily since. Love it.

Hopefully they'll roll it out in NZ soon!

probable dumb question.

How do i pay for stuff at pak n save? Their terminal prompts card then which type of card.

I select eftpos (cheque account ) =card error . I select credit card = too many cards.

The terminals at countdown only ask for card and it works easy.

BNZ today announced it is the first bank in Asia Pacific to launch a new, easier way to set up cards in Android Pay. Using a new ‘push provisioning’ capability, this is now available to all BNZ customers with a Flexi Debit Visa (FDV) card and an Android device running KitKat 4.4 or above.

The latest update allows customers to set up their cards completely from within the BNZ mobile banking app, eliminating the need to bounce between the BNZ and Android Pay apps as previously required.

The push provisioning service is one of the latest developments in the increasingly competitive and exciting mobile payments space says David Bullock, Director – Products and Technology at BNZ.

“We were the first New Zealand launch partner for Android Pay in December last year and this latest update builds on this partnership – keeping us front and centre in the mobile payments space. We are constantly looking at ways to improve the payment experience for our customers and it’s very exciting to be taking this next step. I think it really reinforces our commitment to mobile payments and digital innovation, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of our plans in this area, later in year.”
