there is a setting that you can change to allow you to do this. but the downside to this is it allows you to do ANY voice command when it it off.

I use it all the time. Provided I don't say "Ok Google" in regular conversation, it's fine.

I don't have my actual phone voice commands on, just google now.

I couldn't find the setting, but I didn't look very hard either. Do you happen to know where it is?

What's the difference between phone voice commands and Google Now?

phone ones are specific ones from your phone manufacture for doing things on your phone.

Google now is for google/other related stuff

im not using google now any more as i have google assistant, but im pretty sure its setting > google > voice > "ok Google" detection and setting > google > voice > hands free

try those

Mine doesn't have that option, only with Bluetooth. I'll turn Google Now off, wait for assistant. The cards it seems to like showing me are annoying.

Notifications that pop up telling me about things like weather. The link to cards in Google Now. I could probably disable the notifications, but I'll probably just disable Google Now entirely.

i dont have anything like that because i tuned off notifications.

if you want the voice activated notes then you need to spend time trying to get it to work/install google assistant.

Google Now on my P9 doesn't seem to have the option that lets it listen all the time, so I guess I'll have to wait for Google Assistant.

The part about getting Google Assistant, articles (which are duplicates of each other) say

"Once, you are done reboot your Huawei smartphone and you should be able to get it."

It doesn't say if you have to go to Google Play and download a new app, check for updates in settings, etc.

I might just give up. I appreciate the help though. I'll look at the first links about using Google Now this evening.

Not entirely going to help, but google recognises a 'make a list' command when you install google keep among others.

The motos have moto-voice, which over-rides the 'ok google' phrase also. I suggest doing the long drawn process of configuring cards. It use to tell me sports results etc until I narrowed down the preferences. It does have its perks, like scanning your gmail for courier items and notifying you when its on its way/delivered etc without intervention :)

To get to the voice settings I have to open googles own app icon 'google' an go settings. But the only options I have are from the app, or while driving (using maps). But help does specify only certain language packs allow extended options like always on, or lock screen activation etc.

It's incredibly simple to get Android assistant on your phone. But it is obvious you have no desire to follow instructions or take the advice given.

If you bother to even read it requires MM or later, the correct system language( e.g. Au UK or Us English) and a trigger (often replaces your now on tap trigger)

There's no app to install.

True, I haven't tried very hard, but I have read the linked pages. I have Android 6 (I don't know the names). I have it set to English, of course, the page I was linked to didn't say AU/UK it just said "English". The page also seemed to assume people know exactly what it is, how it's installed, and how to use it - I have no idea.

The reading I did looked like you had to mess with things. In general I find on the Huawei P9 things that should work, don't, so if things don't work easily I've kinda given up on it. I'm hoping Android 7 makes that a bit better.

to get it to work on android 7 will be no different

i had to do the same thing, im hauwei and i was using now, and have changed to assistant
