Hands-down you want the Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2. I have a set and they are EXCELLENT for precisely this purpose. I make a lot of phone calls for work (incidentally I am the product manager for most headphones at PB - but not the Plantronics brand) and usually prefer on-ear for calling as it's harder to control the volume of my voice without being able to hear it. The BBP2 has (average but nice to have) active noise cancellation with (fantastic) pass-through mics that amplify your voice while you're on a call, solving this. Plus they auto-mute when you take them off and auto-resume when you put them back on. Plus Class 1 Bluetooth for longer range. Plus AptX. Plus AptX Low Latency. Plus AAC. Plus 24 hours of usage per charge with IIRC 6 months of standby. Plus a nice lined storage bag. Incredible value for the dollars and comparable with significantly more expensive wireless headphones, you won't do any better than this unless you step up hundreds more dollars to Sony's (also fantastic) MDR-1000X/WH-1000XM2. I cannot recommend these enough.

What about one of these and then you can use any headphone you like.

The also do a Transmitter/Receiver too

I have both. While I haven't used either for phone calls they seem to work very well otherwise. Not too pricey either.

davidcole: I’m hoping to buy the steel series artis(something) 7s. They’re about that price. They say mobile so I would assume Bluetooth? But that’s not what I’ve looked for. I just want wireless pc gaming headphones for Skype and music.

If you mean these https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-7 they are not Bluetooth.

However these ones https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-3-bluetooth appear to be.

I haven't used any of these so can't vouch for quality or performance.

Look for a set that does HD-Voice. Makes a big difference for HD-HD voice calls, especially while driving.

Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 seem like a winner, thanks @nikt so long as my manager says ok. Given my charge out rate this decision is worth about 5 minutes thought at best.
