mattrix:

Anything Xiaomi is usually really good.

I currently use a Mi5 with Resurrection Remix and it's awesome.

I also use their Piston 3.0 earphones which are excellent for the price.

Same with Hisense (there 4K Series 7 TVs keep up with major brands 2-3x the price)
I wanted one but they aren't here yet (only in AU)

China has picked up their game big time.

Interestingly, Chinese phones were on a banned list circulated by the security services when I worked for the government due to the risk of them being co-opted for intelligence gathering purposes by Chinese spies (sorry - Cultural Attaches). I wonder if that is still the case?

I'd be more concerned about US spying via Samsung and co. products.

Maybe the whole China spying thing is US lies so we all buy products that they have access to spy through.

Or maybe everyone is just a bit too paranoid.
We can thank the non biased media for that.

This is why I don't watch or read news (except Tech)

Ok, so going by all this the Japan part is really hard, even worse than I thought. Yes there are a couple of options, however they are limited. Normally when I travel, 1 person has a local sim, and the other just uses wifi etc... As there will be 3 of us, would you agree that it would be easier to just hire a 4G WiFi router and share it? Normally I use a sim to make calls, but I don't see us making many there due to the language barrier.

With that out of the mix, it opens up a number of options. I'm still liking the look of the 3T, however I may go for the 64gb version.

The Xioami phones, what are they like for performance?
