I think Huawei's best phone would have to be the Nexus 6p. Huawei always have had decent hardware and I found the software is what lets it down, as is the case with the majority of phone makers (except HTC which arguably has the best Android skin - after Pure Android of course)
I asked Huawei about Android updates and received this response:
Here’s what we’ve received from Huawei:
P9 was updated from Android 6.0 to Android 7.0 a few months ago, we have not forgotten this device.
Mate 9 – We have managed monthly | bi-monthly security updates, blue borne security update already pushed out, WPA KRACK update releasing soon.
Mate 9 Pro – Same as above , plus we are going to release Android O + EMUI 8.0 in the coming months.

Can you ask on the forgotten Mate 8. Its had nothing.
One interesting feature is Projection. Basically you can plug and external monitor or projector directly to your Huawei Mate 10 Pro. This means the monitor acts as an extension of your phone, but with a desktop interface. You are able to have multiple windows open simultaneously, plus a Start button and a taskbar. You can pin apps to the taskbar as well as change settings from the system icons on the bottom right. You can move and resize these windows (with a few exceptions) and basically work like you would with a full-fledged laptop. You can use your phone as a trackpad and virtual keyboard or pair a set of Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for for a much better experience.
What's even better is that the phone interface is separate from this extension, so you can actually still use the phone as usual, including receiving calls and messages, that won't appear on your "desktop". The interface is fast enough that you can actually play videos fullscreen on extension monitor. In my case I tested this with a 55" TV, using a USB-C to HDMI cable that is found in electronics stores.

Was I dreaming or did I read somewhere that there were different chip-sets? within the
Huawei Mate 10 models sold? some were slower than others ? maybe it was about something else.
I have a mate 9 pro but I think I will settle for the mate 10. I have never really used the dual sim function, not sure if there was anything else to sell me on the Pro?
Now I just have to sell my 9 .......

Their PR agency who passes the questions to Huawei.

Interesting, the GMail app crashed yesterday and wouldn't show any emails. It worked after a restart but contacts from the same account disappeared.
I removed the accounts, disabled GMail and now using Huawei's own Email app. Let's see if it makes things a bit more stable. Seeing GMail was showing a background app message on every restart, I wonder if it could be causing other problems. Will report findings later.

Just reading the specs online. Yet another flagship Huawei without oleophobic coating.

The P9 is still on Android 6.0 , also the last security update was September 2016. Huawei i feel are telling porkies
My Mate 10 Pro received an update yesterday (as well as wife's Mate 9) with November security updates.
