Another day, another new android phone thread from @TeaLeaf

You'd almost think you might even buy a phone one of these years with all this research you've done.

Your price range of suggested phones seems to be somewhere from $200 - $1600

You need to work out what actually is important to you, how much you are prepared to spend, and then actually buy something. And then be prepared to accept that there are and always will be better phones than you own.

All good, they are confusing due to the variety of versions, G5, g5s g5s plus.

Yes it looks like 4GB model has left town.

Whilst 4GB is really the middle road for 2018, 3GB wont make much difference. So instead of 30 apps open you can only have 25 etc.

Lol I dont think id ever have that many apps open personally.

My phone draw is full of test devices. I dont buy anything without researching a lot. I also enjoy discussing mobile technology, hence why I post a thread in the Android Phone forum.

Here is a list of HDR compliant phones, Im pretty sure there are more not on this list. I thought Android tablets were really dead. But I had a god with the Tab S3 today and that thing is gorgeous to use. $900 is not a lot for an Amoled of that size. I just wish Android or Mac would run proper desktop OS on their Tabs like MS so we could use them for full fledged design work like on the Surface Pro. The TabPro S didnt sell very well, its a windows OLED 2n1. But thats about it.

Few things I've seen in this thread - the Moto G5s/G5s Plus are not water resistant, just 'splash resistant'. X4 is the step-up if that's desirable. Stay tuned for new Moto G models to be announced next month.

G6 has an IPS LCD rather than OLED. It is a very nice IPS LCD mind you, capable of deep blacks to achieve both the HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR spec. I very much enjoy HDR Netflix on my V30+.

I sympathize. My only advice is to draw a line in the sand and just by something that is available. New tech always has something better around the corner.
Sounds like you really want band 28 and a nice screen but don't want to spend big dollars.
I suggest you buy a flagship phone from last year second hand from someone here on geekzone.

For example I am really happy with my second hand LG V20.

True - but I guess "splash proof" is better than nothing and that is what I want to proof against - sitting in a boat and getting splashed with water.

Having said that, the X4 with IP68 looks really good. Clove UK have it for 190UKP plus 16UKP delivery, taking it just over the GST threshold. Might be worth seeing if they can knock a few pounds off. Cheapest NZ price is $599 at Supero but not sure if I trust that outfit. Or $699 at PB tech (NZ prices are for 64GB/4GB/dual SIM version

The v20 was on my budget import list, I just dont know if I can justify the v30 even though Id buy the galaxy s8 for the amoled hdr and there is nothing in it when it comes to OLEDs imo, LG to most people looks as good.

Im glad I didnt buy the iPad 2017 when you guys had them on special after this early mornings announcement of stylus support. I think thats a good move from Apple, along with the A10 processor. Whilst not really replacing a notebook the Ipad Pro is much closer to a mouse with a stylus than the 9.7 with your finger, if that makes sense, and now its more powerful. Which tells me one thing, the new Ipad Pro must be getting the A11x chip which will probably be as powerful as an i7-8500u, time to start thinking one OS apple and save the company.

I normally walk out with something but was just there for looksies at the phones and the ux311 which they didnt have but the 430 gave me an idea of what the blue spun metal loooks like. Also was hoping they would have either the Carbon x1 g6 or Yoga x1 g3 with their amazing OLED like HDR LCDs on display.

I'm interested in phones that are: waterproof (1m), wireless charging, quality low light camera, Android. So S7/S8/S9 fit the bill - any others?

This one is actually for me, not test phases of SDLC, but also for testing HDR. The problem is the HDR implementation on LCD (Dolby) is very different to the Amoled hdr10.

I really want a Note 8 that looks like a Note 5 (no curved glass) but has the new Note functionality for productivity but also does HDR.

Im stuck between my new notebook/tablet being HDR or my phone, if I go the notebook I dont NEED the Note 8, if I get the Note 8, Im not sure whether id go tablet, 2n1 or notebook. I have about 30 products in my head so you can understand its not easy to balance but Ive written my own use case and business requirements lol, then I just wrote a pros and cons list and decided that makes things clearer.

If honest Im kind of hanging on the iPad X, but its not due for release for quite a while.

I might get the new iPad 9.7" announced last night and the Note 8

Or I will get the Thinkpad Yoga x1 with what is probably the best LCD display on the market. The XPS didnt excite me, I feel the Thinkpad implementation of HDR is better. Plus its a 2n1.

In that case Ill either get the S8 or v30. The S9 did nothing for me. when I first walked in I picked it up and thought nothings changed, it was an S8 and the S9 next to it looked the same. And IMO the finger print placement is still awkward. on the button or the screen or not at all imo.
