My impressions on the Huawei P20 Pro so far.

Problems:

As in previous EMUI versions, I still have to manually whitelist apps that I want to keep running in the background - something I don't have to do with my OnePlus 5T. This is ok, but I still see some apps being closed regardless of "Ignore battery optmisation" being selected, e.g. I have OneDrive set to upload my photos when on WiFi. Sometimes I take a few photos, get home and they don't show up on my laptop. I open OneDrive on the Huawei and then, only then, OneDrive starts uploading the photos - simply because the app was closed at some point.
As in previous versions Norton WiFi Privacy (an always-on VPN) doesn't stay always on. For no apparent reason it will simply die - regardless of being on WiFi or mobile data. On my OnePlus it will stay always on, and if I move out of WiFi it will automatically reconnect using mobile data. Not with the Huawei EMUI - if it disconnects it won't reconnect again and if it is closed then I have to manually launch it.
The GMail app is included and like in previous versions, if you add an Exchange account it will show a banner (on top of the Gmail app, not in the notification drawer) saying "Click to allow Gmail to run in the background." - you click that message and tap the button to allow. Next time you restart the phone you have to do it again. Exactly like in all previous EMUI versions.
Bluetooth still seems to have something strange going e.g. I connect a pair of Bose, which with my OnePlus 5T will control the volume directly (as in if I push the volume up and down on the headphone I see the volume slider moving up and down on the smartphone) but on the P20 it will change the volume on the headphones while keeping the smartphone volume at the same level (again this is something that happened in previous EMUI versions).

In other words, whatever problems I had with EMUI before it seems they haven't been fixed.

The good things:

The Huawei Email app is quite capable to replacing Gmail for Exchange though - I'd like to have an option to return to the email list when deleting an open email, instead of going to the next one (which marks the next one as Read even if I don't want to).
The camera is really the product main attraction point - as expected. The photos are incredibly crisp, even in low light situations (e.g. taking a photo in a dark room with candle lights from a birthday cake only).
In terms of speed the P20 Pro leaves me very satisfied. It's one fast smartphone.
The screen is simply beautiful. Great colours, the black is really dark and contrast is great, even under sunlight.
The phone fits well in the hand.
The battery life is pretty good - but considering it kills some of the apps I want to keep running.

Huawei make some of the best hardware, but their software is something that always leaves me wanting more. If only they did a Nexus or Pure Android version of the P20 Pro..
Would the Pixel camera work with the P20 Pro?

I thought this was normal. Bluetooth volume on my Galaxy S7 is the same as the P20 - any volume adjustment is headphone only, no phone adjustment.

Hmmm. Nope. IF my OnePlus 5T is connect and I change volume on the headphone you can see the slider moving on the handset - it controls the handset volume.

Phone looks great and $1299 is a reasonable price for the pro. Even has a front facing finger print reader which is a winner.

Would be near perfect if it had a headphone jack....

The headphone jack is not a big deal. Bluetooth exists for that.
