I miss my Nexus .. not that it would have got Pie

I think the Pixel 2 XL would suit me well but PB Tech (who I trust) only seem to have the non-2 version of the XL and the other retailers who have it err a bit more to the Dark Side for my taste.

IMHO I'd love to see Skinny offer it along with Google Wifi (which confuses me why Spark offer Google Wifi given Spark's fixation with using VLAN tagging and Google Wifi doesn't support VLAN tagging) - Google and Skinny seem to be two brands that could go together to be focused on the young connected generation where maybe Google Wifis can be offered as an upgrade when one signs up for a 12 month contract for fibre.

I'd be happy if SOMEONE did! I see you can get them from Google in Australia, but only with an Australian delivery address. Not sure what happens with warranty if you figure out a way to get one that way. Surely you might be an Australian who bought one then moved here...

I think that is what I'm going to do if I ever feel the itch of giving Android a second chance. After seeing the various crappy phones that carriers insist on selling but merely collecting dust in the show room I wonder whether carriers are interested in making money by selling people what they want.

I've had no issues on my Original Pixel (non-XL)

Phone is still zippy and fast, I've turned on the new gestures thing.  Digital Wellbeing seems interesting, but mostly a gimmick - I don't use social media apps enough on my phone it seems.

Best thing is the new battery saver stuff, otherwise it's all very small changes and mostly under the hood.

It's a shame they're moving towards the iOS way of doing things, but I guess you gotta follow the leader.

Dingbatt: Is it even more 'locked down' to what Google's idea of what a mobile operating system should be? I have noticed with each new version of Android, having things the way you want them becomes less and less of an option unless you want to root the phone.

Google phones (Nexus and Pixel) are not "locked down". They are launched with plain Android and are always the first with the latest versions. They are also the easiest to change to your liking (without rooting).

(From experience with my own Nexus 4, 5, 6, 6P, 7 and now Pixel 2XL)

No (except for some Pixel owners saying battery life is not as good as before). My Pixel 2XL battery life is definitely better. I easily get 2 days of use on one charge.

I concur with your sentiment. I got my Pixel 2XL 128Gb from a Geekzone member who bought it in Australia but decided it was too big for him. I love it (but will still try to get version 3). I have a holiday booked in Surfers in early October but suspect it will not be available there until late October.
