Four cameras? Half the people will only use the camera for Facebook and Instagram where just about any half decent camera phone will be good enough.

Makers likely finally coming to realisation, sensor size is King. And since noone is going larger, double the virtual sensor size and take interpolated images where the 2nd evaluates the scene and does inboard HDR I believe. Don't go looking at a P20 pro then. 5 :)

Thanks, I will have to check out that tech. All of this is new to me!

Got home and there was a Huawei nova 3i here... The purple/blue is amazing:

That looks like the colourway that is available for the P20 Pro called Twighlight - which is not available for some reason in NZ. Is that colour a normal NZ colour or a special one for freebies to Tech Gurus? wink

I read that it does not have 802.11ac WiFi support. How is the camera? I heard it can be too artificial at times thanks to its AI algorithms.

802.11 bgn, 2.4 GHz only - if you want 802.11 ac or 5 GHz then you should look at the Huawei nova 3e (P20 Lite) instead.

I'm looking at replacing my Meizu M3s and was having a look at one of these in Noel Leeming yesterday. The people that have one, what are your opinions of it? Currently tossing up between this and an Oppo A75.

I have spent some time with the Nova 3i, to my mind it handily bests the A75.

Between the 4GB RAM, sharp new Huawei-built processor with big A7X cores for heavy lifting, unprecedented storage for the price, and beautiful Iris Purple option, the overwhelming impression I'm left with is that the Nova 3i is the best baseline smartphone in the market right now. It is enough - or more than enough - to meet the vast majority of needs, leaving spendier options as something you need to carefully consider the use-case for. A tremendous amount of phone for $499.

Short of NFC, 5GHz WiFi (there is a case to be made there), wireless charging, water resistance, and stereo speakers, all of which may or may not be useful for your use-case, there is not a lot separating this from devices costing three times as much.

Cheers mate. I was leaning towards the Huawei, just the lack of 5ghz wifi was putting my off a bit although it won't make a huge amount of difference if I'm being honest.

No worries. Think it'd bother me personally, but I have fairly extensive demands of phones! There's the Nova 3 non-i as well which steps up to bigger battery, faster charging, better cameras, slightly sleeker design, 6GB RAM, and the same processor as in the P20/P20/Mate 10/Pro - and does have 5GHz. Huawei have been killing it this year.

Bring on the next trick up their sleeves.

Seriously looking at this phone. Seems great value at $499.

Would match my wife's new Nova 3e, MF! Great WAF, BTW. I like it a lot, too.
