I did all that and I'm still in the same position where I received a text from Google with a verification code but nothing else happens.

Maybe because I'm running Android 8 still? Still it's no big deal because I would have nobody to interchange texts with.

Ok got it working. Just had to force closed the message app and started it again. Still I can't test because I have nobody I know who has enabled these features.

Just got a chance to test RCS last night. My son ping me to say his Pixel 3 it just received an update to the message app to enable RCS. I have done the same on my phone with the hack So we both are on Vodafone were able to exchange RCS messages. Seems pretty nice the cool part was being able to actually send an audio message which I like since I hate typing long texts.

And of course the little bubbles you can see when the other person is writing.

I still don't see why anyone would use this over WhatsApp. The WhatsApp userbase is huge, it's end-to-end encrypted (RCS isn't, the carriers can see everything) and it offers all the same features.

Now if RCS had come along 10 years ago, it would have been great. But it's 10 years too late, its' like a watered down version of WhatsApp.

(Yes, WhatsApp is owned by Facebook, but it's using end-to-end encryption the same as Signal is)

Was just about to click submit and I read this. Google is rolling out RCS to everyone in the US. By everyone, that means people with the Google Messages app installed. So Pixel users and, err....

RCS was created ~10 years ago - and failed to gain any traction then just like it continues to do so now.

Not just pixel users, I know a few people who use Messages, Messages for Web being just one of the reasons.

In regards to the different apps, I don't see why Google never capitalised on Hangouts, every device supported it and the web version works well, and comparable to Facebook Messenger in smoothly moving between multiple devices.

Well, if you could set WhatsApp as a default text app and it could send rich text / plain text to the other end user, depending what they had installed, then you would be onto a winner.

Google is well know for killing apps and services - in the messaging space there's Google Allo and Google Hangouts. I am not sure betting on RCS is smart. It may well go the way of the dodo...

You should checkout Signal.

Well, I did, but after selecting 'yes' to import existing texts and it deleted ALL text content, I wont be recommending it....
