I've now done my bit for Nexus One sales. I've bought two.

Anecdotally, the shenanigans involved in organising a shipping proxy in order to get a N1 was enough to stymy my enthusiasm. I'm quite sure I would have picked one up if they were at least available directly from Google otherwise. As it stands, I'm about to order a Desire instead. In my opinion the N1 missed its chance to capitalise on being the best Android phone available.

And tht was Google fail. The reason why so little of those were sold is because Google went the Microsoft way in made it avalable in very limited markets.

Well one could argue the US market is pretty large, even though it was really T-Mobile customers who would benefit. It was down to little or no marketing, no store presence and then really poor customer support.

As for the shopping experience, that was fine for me. Since I was in the US where the phone was targeted to sell, all I did was go to my Google account, choose the phone, enter CC number and it arrived the next day.

The convoluted process local people went through has nothing to do with Google - they only wanted to sell the phone in certain markets.

As an aside, if our N1' break and need replacing that process is going to be a bit challenging with no local support as there was in Hong Kong and the UK.

I see that the N1 has been announced for Verizon to be available possibly this week. That will certainly be a good measure of how popular the phone will be since from what I have read, Verizon will more active in marketing that T-Mobile were.

The point was, Verizon selling the N1 will be a better sign of how popular it will be.

As for the N1 the AT&T version is also available on their site so you can get that if you wedded to XT :-)

n95: Yes I would buy one if they were available in NZ!

They ARE available in New Zealand, just not through Google. I have seen them in Digi Parallel Imports in Queen St (Auckland) and I think in Parallel Imports (bottom of Queen St).

They are also a few on Trademe, but your probably safer buying from the US than some NZ based traders, especially warrenty wise.
