Price with plan, once you work out the wonderful VF Website

Smart $60 24 months term
60 Anytime minutes
200 TXTs to any NZ mobiles
250MB of data included

Your Sony Ericsson X10i
$799.00 with this plan.

And if you want an iphone 3GS (16GB) on a similar plan.... that'll be $649 thanks

Wonder if the X10 has the 3GB data upgrade the iphone gets (even if its only for another 6 weeks)

based on the above, you get 8 more GB and $150 off if you get an iPhone instead of the X10.

The difference being you also get a PSP with the X10, which would sel on TM for approx $250, thus making the X10 $100 cheaper than the iPhone but still with 8gb lacking in storage.

yeah but you pay less for the iPhone because:
- It's a much slower processor, almost twice as slow
- the X10 has an 8.1mp camera with flash, the 3gs has no flash and 3.1mp
- user replaceable battery without taking the phone apart
- 4" display with higher res
- Multitasking....
- Google Apps
- Ok, I'll give iPhone the more apps thing, but they are mostly paid apps, google are mostly free and there will soon be more

Any idea of when the mini X10 will be coming to Voda or XT?

Or a 16GB microsd is about $90?  So the 3GS is not only cheaper, but may also get OS 4.0 upgrade before the X10 get 2.1.  Hmm....

Rumour has it that Android v2.2 will be announced for Google Nexus One next week at Google I/O 2010.

Some video and screenshots along with features have already been seen in the wild....and it looks good.

Sony Ericsson have clearly invested a lot in making the Xperia 10 a worthy contender, but the delays in bringing it to market will require a clear statement from them about any upgrade path.

The pattern to date is that the more a vendor customises Android, the longer it takes them to bring out updates for their customisations.  HTC Hero owners are still waiting for their long-promised Android v2.1 updates...and the phones clearly have what it takes to run v2.1 adequately.

If Sony will tell me exactly when they plan to put Android v2.1 or 2.2 on the Xperia 10, I'll seriously consider buying one.

You'll be waiting a while, I suspect.

The second post in this thread states that 2.1 is coming in Q4. In my opinion that's far too late, but that's the announced plan.

Yep, Q4 is far too late. By then 2.2 will be out, so it'll still be lagging behind. 2.2 looks set to bring several significant improvements, apps to SD being just one of them, so its a reasonably big deal.

By then the X10s hardware won't look so appealing Vs its competitors either - Motoroi will be around, on at least 2.1 with Xenon Flash and 720P video, not to mention some others like the Galaxy S with its gorgeous Super AMOLED screen. So, basically, by the time you get the upgrade there are already handsets with better hardware and software, so whaddya gonna do? I'd only buy the X10 if you are happy with the handset now, with all its shortcomings, rather than the promise of belated updates to the OS version.

the main reason why i ended up getting a desire instead of the x10 was the lack of pinch zoom, which wont be added with any 2.1 update as it's a hardware issue ..the screen sony use is a generation behind the one in the desire.

mind you the desire's mutlitouch has flaws once you start trying to do anying other than pinch zoom, the incredible has the next screen tech up from that also ..

but yeh no pich zoom combined with dodgy touch responce issues put me right off after being the biggest x10 fanboy on here.

Where is the smart250 plan? I would like to get the X10i, but will want more minutes than the smart130 plan provides.

You have to go in-store for the smart250. Not available online.

I can order on-line now... and hope to be in the first 300 for a PSP... or drive to a store to save an unknown amount and possibly miss out on the PSP.... decisions, decisions...

Have tried calling a store to clarify, but the one I spoke with couldn't help... are calling me back...
