walt12:  If the LG phone can be updated to 2.1, then this is a great pricepoint for Android for the masses.

Indeed, hope it's not a price mistake though, as Australia is selling it at 500 or so ... this is definitely cheap!

$500AUD is cheaper than 999NZD...

No, that's for the LG, .. APC mag reports... cost 504 down the bottom of that story

Additionally;

Access to Android Market through your VF account maybe?

Why would you require this? Using the market is extremely simple once google has your visa (debit) details. I dont think Vodafone would go for this anyway because they would not make any money out of it even though they are carrying your debt for up to 2+ months!

wreck90: Iphone 4 has raised the bar though.

I'd considered the HTC, but these iphone 4 reviews are pretty damn good. Choices choices, isn't competition great?

Good on vodafone.

The biggest issue now, is probably not the handsets themselves, but the local operators and their miserly data plans.

Interesting. I use many of the functions that iPhone can't do (access files on PCs on the LAN via wifi, FTP songs from my PC over the Internet while I'm out via 3G....etc..etc..)  and isn't allowed to do, so for me to buy an iPhone it would have be a LOT cheaper than a decent Android phone.

I see iPhone functionality as a sub-set of what I can do with Android......Maybe that's not correct, but for me the Cons for iPhone vastly outweigh any Pro's.  Most of the new functions in iPhone 4 are things Android has had for nearly two years....certainly since last June in NZ when the HTC Magic was released: folders, multi-tasking, customisable UI for starters.

I was *seriously* on the way to buying an Apple iPhone.....then the HTC Magic came out and I saw what Android could do:

More.

iPhone 4 still hasn't caught up to what a Nexus One  or a Desire is capable of.....

Do you think these handsets will have Vodafone emblazoned branding on them? That would probably be a deal breaker for me if they do. I can't stand the Vodafone logo on my current Sony Ericsson.

Not any more it doesn't

They said so.

Apparently it has mothing to do with reception issues...it's all about how the bars look on the signal metre.

If Cupertino says it, it's true.

I've just had an e-mail reply from Brightpoint syaing that they have no plans - as yet - to stock this phone in New Zealand. Perhaps we need an official word from somebody.
