You can remove the telstra software if you root it. I haven't done this yet because its not intrusive at all once you take it off the home screen.

You can use it on vodafone fine but 3G will only work in cities. Note this is the exact same situation everyone with the iphone 3g and 3gs are in as the iphone has the same frequencies as the XT/nextg desire.

I've found Mobicity to be fine, and it seems a lot of people here have used them with no bad feedback. :-)

Got my XT compat HTC Desire from Mobicity ... they actually called my mobile to confirm the order, nice of them considering it was an international mobile call.

The Telstra software isn't really that noticeable, but I wouldn't mind getting it removed at some point just because ...

I received mine last week. Very impressed with Mobicity service. They were prompt on calling and confirming, although I noticed they charge conversion fee on credit card if you order it on NZ domain, use .com.au if you get the same discount coupon working. I used a coupon by promoting them on facebook and saved me around 25NZD. 20AUD that is.

Phone itself is nice, and dont like the telstra things on it, but dont want to root and remove. its a long process and dont mind someone doing it for me for a charge rather than me trying to fiddle around with it.

I also want to get froya update 2.2 from google, but heard lots of debranding issues with these phones from mobicity, so spoke to them and they asked not to update yet and still waiting on any eta.

I would recommend using mobicity guys .. good prices for a start.

Pretty sure you still get a conversion fee on the .com.au domain also.
They are an AU business, so they want payment in AUD. And im pretty sure its your bank charging you that conversion fee, not mobicity. its usually 1-4% or something, not sure.

I did not have to pay customs, they marked the value of the product as 250 dollars and probably why it just arrvied straight to my door the next day.

You are right, its the bank that charges it for conversion fee, I guess its the same for any overseas transactions you do online? I am with bankdirect. I am fine with it, the phone is great.
