I got my Desire from Clove via Royal Mail and didn't get pinged for GST, total was $800NZ (incl postage + leather flip case)

I think VFNZ are still going to sell the Desire, although they only have a few days left to get it out in July ;)

Yes, be warned that at the NZ end it is not signed-for delivery, just recorded, so the postie may just leave it on your doorstep like ours did.

I'll be sure to use a work address then, would hate for it to be sitting outside my house /freak.

You should be able to get around that by putting a business address on it, then they'll usually come within business hours to drop it off.

They've obviously put the price up during the day - I saw it for $772.50 inc GST this morning as well.

That might've been my bad.  I emailed them asking how long they were offering them at that price for and a few other questions.

Well I now know who I'm NOT buying off.  Bastards lol.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Chomping at the bit to buy a smartphone. The Vodafone price plans for the Iphone and Nexus one are ridiculous so I'm looking at doing the import thing as well.

The HTC desire hardware and UI enhancements make it more appealing than the Nexus One but I'm a little put off by the need to wait for HTC to release their custom version of each new base OS update. I read somewhere that Android 3.0 will supposesly be hardware-independant. Hopefully the HTC desire can be flashed with the vanilla OS and then the addtional UI goodies downloaded. Last thing I want to do is fork out a grand on a new phone only to find the OS is no longer updatable (The joys of living in the Antipodes).

Curious about posting regarding FM radio on the NExus One. Does the hardware actually have a dormant receiver? There was some speculation the same thing could be done with the ITouch (great little device but severely handicapped by the lack of public wi-fi in NZ) but what I gather the hardware just can't do it.

How does the HTC Desire perform on Vodaone pre-pay? A semi-techy work colleague is under the impression the smartphone features are only usable on a contract but this seems absurd. My current "dumb"phone doesn't seem to have any problems.

You can totally use the Desire on VF prepay.. just buy the prepay data bundles.. it's what I do :)

You can flash the Desire with cooked roms. There's a few out now with 2.2 (without sense) and even some leaked 2.2's with sense and 2.1 that's been tweaked etc. There's a bunch of them out there.

I wouldn't worry about not being able to get new ROMS for it. The community will see to that :)

I ordered one off them yesterday at $796. I paid by cc rather than bank transfer in the hope of getting it before the weekend.
I had not received any tracking info from them by this afternoon so I rang to see what was going on.
Turns out down the bottom of the screen there is a line that says "delivery in 3-5 working days"
That is THEY expect delivery to them in that time, they do not have the Desire in stock despite saying "in stock" on the page....

I did not ask about the price increase, my guess is their cost price has gone up and I was lucky enough to score one of the last ones at that price.
It was about 30 mins after my order that I saw they were now 1k!

Hi All,

Hoping to order my Desire in the next week and I was just wondering if anyone had anymore reviews of Mobicity and their service, etc?
Do you have to pay extra GST (like you do with Clove)?
Something I'm slightly suspicious of is that their prices go up and down daily, depending on when you look.

I have been planning to buy one from Clove, but their stock keeps disappearing as soon as it comes in again!
