Oh cool, can you setup a sort of 'hotkey' or some kind of script like a next song? so if you press that button it sends the command;

ssh server@192.168.1.x rhythmbox --next

could write a fairly simple app to do it I guess... log onto ssh with an inputted user/address/password, then select program you're using rhythmbox/amarok (start small aye? :P), then have next/play/pause/prev perhaps even mute/volip/voldown.

Sorry the command should be;

ssh server@192.168.1.x rhythmbox-client --next

I use ziplock bags... :-)

If I'm on the mountain I try put it in a pocket less likely to take an impact, like a zipup chest pocket inside jacket, or in the backpack.

In the boat it's in a ziplock in the zipped up pants pocket or on the dash.

aim: I thought of setting up a call/text forwarding and running a 2degrees phone that I can enable for a few hours. or a day or however long I decide to go skiing - is this possible in android?

Is this possible? Would be quite handy when heading out on the mountain bike....
People can contact you if you're waiting on a call...
I will be using my current nokia as a 2deg back up when my Desire arrives, and being able to forward calls and txts to it would be incredibly useful.
Otherwise have to muck around swapping sims everytime.

On a boat I can understand a ziplock bag. But every 2nd or third day its drizzling here in chch. Most electronic devices tend to stand up to it, I'd be suprised if an HTC couldn't :P

Those otter things are awesome. I'm very tempted to get one.

I have a case for my Samsung Galaxy S and wear a backpack when snowboarding so it would sit comfortably in there. I used to have a spare backup phone that I didn't care about so would use this when my smartphone wasn't 'safe'.

A "man bag" definitely helps you keep your gadgets safe. It's a pain to put it into your bag constantly but you will get used to it. And no, I don't have a man bag... I really don't...:P

My "Manbag" is a Targas backpack made for a laptop and other computer gear. Pockets everywhere...and some of them claim to be waterproof. I don't trust it. :-) Ziplocks for the win.

I have cheap laptop bag I use to for uni notes. Rarely holds a laptop. The rear outer pouch is usually home to my car keys, wallet, sansa fuze, pens, pencils other drawing utnesils, calculator, and phone. It's usually full and phone gets a bit cratched in there.

If you bought your handset from VF, you could get Phone Insure.

Replacement under pretty much all circumstances, with a $125.00 excess for $10 a month.

On the contents insurance, you might not be covered for a phone - you'd need to check your insurance policy and maybe even list it as a specific insured item.

I agree, Phone Insure is the way to go, covers everything except willful damage e.g. if you thrown it under a truck wheel, it aint covered, but if you drop it and a truck drives over it, then it's covered.

I walked through an estruary with my n95 unknowinly still in my pocket and killed it. It was covered under normal contents insurance and didn't have to pay excess because it was a first claim. But when I dropped a drill on the next one the excess was $500... So just check your insurance policies then decide.

I also go snowboarding and just leave it in the car, there's no such thing as a safe pocket... but I did toy with the idea of getting a cheapo 2degrees as there is good reception up there.

Also, it depends on how long you've been using expensive phones. After a few years of having a $1k, you learn to be more careful...
