My Wildfire came with 2.1, apparently we have to wait for a 2.2 upgrade to be available. Then you can add voice search, which will be wicked!

I got a Wildfire and Desire at the same time from EKing and the Desire showed the 2.2 upgrade [Although it fails to install] but not on the Wildfire. I notice that apps I have on the Desire are not always available in the marketplace on the Wildfire, are they looking at different marketplaces?

well, here's an interesting conversation i've just had with eKing support:

Hi Eric

The handset has arrived safe and sound, and i couldn't be happier with it :)

I do have one question though: what carrier was the handset originally intended for? if i can find that out then i can also find out when the froyo 2.2 OTA release will be available for me.

Thanks
Stu

Hi, Stu

You phone will work with Vodafone and 2Degrees network. Please do not do the Froyo 2.2 update, this  is very serious, you will regret!

Best regards,
Eric

Sounds like a threat to me Laughing Actually I think there are a number of Erics as the replies vary in readability.

I asked him whether he had any suggestions regarding upgrading to 2.2 as the phones he sells are not able to do this for some reason.  [My HTC Desire from EK will download the installation file but lock up before installing] I was asking about my Desire but my GF has the Wildfire.
I said that I knew he didn't personally rate the upgrade on the Desire or the Wildfire but i wanted it anyway as it had features I wanted and improved performance.

He said he would look into it as he had a "couple" of people with the same problem.

I hate the way Eric doesn't answer all questions. Like the previous poster asking what carrier it was on and getting the answer regarding the carrier it will work on here. Typical example of an Eric response.

I think he is putting people off the upgrade as he knows it won't work and he doesn't want people coming back complaining.

he also said that he will not accept returns for this reason as per their terms and conditions. Which I think is bulls***

if i were inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, i'd think he was trying to steer people away from rooting their handset to 2.2

It could be that he's not very well informed, or that he's just plain ignorant: or that there is evidently a language barrier we can't break. Place your bets.

I've read reports that the OTA for wildfire should be happening in the next month or two for those who's handsets didnt ship with froyo... but we'll see.

I bought my HTC Wildfire from www.clove.co.uk, like others have mentioned. I would definitly recommend them, great service and very cheap compared to prices over here. Took 5 days from the day I ordered it till it got to my door. Didnt have any problems with customs charging tax or anything like that either.
