Left phone at home and went to get lunch, got back and it went through, but had to reset cache and factory reset once it restarted, it crashed and just kept vibrating the first time.

Other australian users on XDA also got the update this morning when my mate told me about it, but the latest australian users seem to be getting either No update available or a Error downloading on the file. Might have been an issue with a staggered update from Samsung.

My mates coming over soon and has apparently rooted his already and lag fixed it, so I'll compare performance to my unrooted/unlagged one. So far, seems to be working fine :)

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

So has it updated to 2.2 or not?

Yes 2.2 is on it now, sorry should haveve made that clearer, have posted in the s9000 thread accidentally, seems to be running well, haven't rooted or lag fixed yet, waiting for more Aussies/NZers in XDA to say what they are using

Seems to be a really weird rate of hit and miss with people though,
- Some people got it early this morning, which is when I started mine updating
- Others had to use the reg hack
- Others said the update showed, but has just frozen on the downloading stage

Think I'll spend the next few hours installing the applications and fixing all the settings

I connected my phone to the PC, loaded the Samsung Kies Software, updated Kies and then selected Upgrade Firmware and voila - FROYO was installed!!"

Vinnieg: My Samsung Galaxy S was bought from Virgin Mobile in Australia and was very likely flashed by the previous owner with something else - probably from Modaco - afterward.

It says it's PDA: JG5 / PHONE:JG1 / CSC:OXX

When I try to update via Kies - which sees my phone just fine - it says it can't upgrade this version. That may be because it isn't a stock firmware.

Any idea what ROM I should flash onto the phone so it updates to Froyo as yours did?

The Virgin Mobile CSC is XSAJG2
The Vodafone NZ CSC is VNZJH1

But what I don't know (yet) is the stock PDA and PHONE values for either Virgin Mobile or Vodafone NZ.

I followed these instructions on XDA-Developers and they worked for me AFTER I changed Kies from UK English to US English.

My Galaxy S is now running stock (for now) official Froyo. Yay. :-)

How are you finding the speed? I have 9 pages of apps installed and it is very laggy. I stopped using LauncherPro and switched back to Touchwiz otherwise my phone was basically unusable.

I'm re-installing my 140-ish apps via Appbrain now as I had done a factory reset on the phone prior to the upgrade trying to trigger it.

**So far** I'm installing up to 5 apps at once and no lag remotely close to what was going on before. It's behaving like my Nexus One did.....as I say...'so far'.

We'll see how it goes after I have all my apps back on and Launcher Pro installed.....

One Click Lag Fix can't root this ROM....so I'll have to look into how to get it rooted. I do like "ShootMe!" for screenshots. If they allowed stock Android to take screen shots, I might not bother rooting my phone.

Update: Quadrant puts it at 1007 - and ranks that as about 25% faster than a "Samsung Galaxy S". But a Nexus One running Froyo is ranked at 1300-ish. Whatever Quadrant says, the phone is smooth....so far.

I'm pretty sure you can take screenshots without root just by holding back and pressing the home button. There is an application to root froyo called super one click or something like that and just requires you plugging your sgs into a pc.

That's cool. I was able to take a screenshot of the Home screen that way. But in an app, it uses the back and Home button as you would expect...and no screenshot.

Still! Thanks for that tip.

Thanks also for the rooting advice. I'll follow it up. Installing 140+ apps is taking a while... :-)
