c71931f: If you have a non stop txt xt sim, send 10,000 text's to a 2D sim you have, then get a free IDEOS ;) Cheaper than buying one... Looks like i'll be getting two ( 12,000 text's to go till i will have 20,000 in total on two 2d sims)

textmerace.co.nz
Definitely the cheapest way to get a IDEOS
:)

Thanks for the info! Do you think they will discount texts that say the same thing? I assume the easiest way is to forward the same message over and over from an XT 5000 txt phone? It's a neat idea, for the cost of $120 you can get two Ideos phones =p.

Yeah so how does this text race work?
Can i just send the same message 10,000 times to myself from an xt sim to my 2degrees sim card? If I just have one phone does it matter if I have to have keep switching the sim? - e.g like send 100, swap sims and receive the 100, repeat?
Ideos looks great. But if everyone does this there will probably a lonnngg wait to get the free phone.

This sure does sound the best way to get an entry level android.

I looked in the rules and forwarding the same message does not seem to be disallowed, although they reserve the right to discount computer aided texts. Not sure how they will apply that rule though.

I don't really see any difference between telling everyone you know to spam text your number, and spam texting yourself, and looking at the current leader board it looks like there has just been ridiculous amounts of spam texts.

Do you think 2Degrees are getting enough from the termination charges to fund the competition?

It's why I asked.
Considering you need the 20,000 texts for the first runner up prize, that is getting 1.5 texts every minute, for 18 hours per day, over 12 days. That would be the "fair" way to play but I really can't see someone getting that many texts? That's why I'm asking for rules 'cos the terms and conditions do only mention that software and computers aren't allowed.

I agree, I think when they set the prize limits they must have foreseen spam texting from other networks:
20 000/2500 texts per month =  8 * $30 per sim =  $240. I used 2500 because I assume when 2D thought up the textmerace 2500 was the most texts you could get from other providers.

There's not much chance of your average 2D customer getting anywhere past 2000 texts or less.

How about the LG Optimus One P500
HVGA capacitive touchscreen and Android 2.2 for around $500.
Looks quite nice, can be found via pricespy.
I think I'll get one for xmas!

PS I wonder if 2deg or Vodafone will get those before xmas?
