The new HTC Wildfire is exceptionally small and now has a higher resolution screen. Can be purchased from clove.co.uk ... but not yet shipping ... you need to wait another two months.

I have a LGP500. It felt large when I first got it, but now I find it very pocketable.

The Wildfire S: http://www.clove.co.uk/htc-wildfire-s has a fairly slow processor and it's only Armv6 so doesn't support Flash.

A slim phone can make all the difference, the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc are all under a cm in width meaning they will fit into pockets with ease.

These are the smallest fast phones that i know of

HTC Wildfire S is also small but is only QVGA with 600Mhz

Otherwise yes I agree with above, Galaxy S2 (8.5mm) very slim. Galaxy S is 9.9mm

Xperia Arc is not as slim as you think as it's curved so is 8.7 - 10 mm thick

btw i think if you have small screen or low res screen you don't need a powerful phone

The Wildfire S has an HVGA (320x480) screen. the 600mhz MSM 7227 is definitely powerful enough for this but you would not have Flash available and it's unlikely you'd be able to play any recent 3d games.

It's not gonna cut the mustard (the WildFire), It's not just related to screensize, it's how quickly apps load. She has a Diamond Touch 2 now, and it's so slow it's horrible. I have a galaxy s which everything happens instantly.

oh HVGA is not so bad, the wildfire s is probably reasonably snappy if you root as use autokiller to optimise the memory management, maybe use setcpu to overclock to 650 or 700mhz. it has 512mb ram which is reasonable.

Galaxy S is big compared to the Liquid E or Defy. She is a Petite lady and doesn't want a big heavy device in her pocket, otherwise I would.

I got my girlfriend the Samsung Wave S8500 as it's quite small although slightly thick and she is tiny (just over 5 feet). she likes it a lot more than my SGS even though it runs Bada OS.

You could wait for the Samsung Galaxy Pro. It has 800Mhz processor with 512MB RAM. Will run Froyo, but be upgradeable to Gingerbread.

It's very pocketable. It's a no brainer if you're an SGS man yourself.
