lchiu7: Maybe it's different on the N1 but all I do is connect the phone to the PC, turn on the USB drive and access files on the phone using Windows Explorer. That doesn't seem too hard for me.

I think it varies by phone - Samsungs (at least my Galaxy Spica) seem to make this difficult/impossible via the supplied connection software.  My new phone (ZTE Blade) behaves exactly like your N1 - plug it in to USB, press one dialog button on phone, and it behaves like a USB drive on the PC

On the N1 I found it ridiculously easy.  I plugged the phone into the pc and created a folder called music on the SD card.  Copied my music into it and the default music player picked up all the albums without having to do anything.  I also use ES file explorer to browse to my pc shared folders over wireless.  This is also very simple copy and paste.  Another great app is Awesome Drop http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.dashwire.drop

I use Doubletwist to manage my media as well as be my media player on my desirehd. You can install an application on your PC that is like itunes but for android.
Connect your phone, mount sdcard and away you go. It syncs playlists from itunes or wmp11 as well. The best part is, its free.
You can fork out a few extra dollars to get wireless syncing (airsync) so it syncs any new media when you enter your home wifi network.
