+1 on X5 for price.
Stay away from cheap samsungs (or anycheap android) as the resolution sucks and limits apps (and makes browsing and emails hard to read)
ALWAYS check resolution!

I think you will like Android. I have only recently started using it. Takes a while to get used to if you are moving from some other OS. The best thing I find about it is that if you can think of something you want your phone to do, someone somewhere has made an app for it.

if you have read in other threads, i always recommend milestone2. i personally prefer it over desire Z - note: i have never used desire Z extensively but i played with it while i was in dubai. HTC produce good phone, maybe i am just used to milestone keyboard and found the build more sturdy. in some reviews, there are issues where desire Z keyboard will flip back if you use it in bed or automagically open the keyboard while its in your pocket.

one drawback with milestone2, the official update to 2.3 can be very slow/delayed. but hey, i can do everything that i want with milestone2 - no lag and loving every bits of motoblur. im writing this reply from my laptop, connected to milestone2 that act as hotspot on 2degrees network. the price is also competitive. if you are getting motorola, get it from clove.co.uk because they are official dealer.

I actually have a P500 and think it's the best phone for its price by far! But people are probably sick of me saying that. The reason I'm not a fan of Samsung is the lack of proper updates, the fact most are on 2.1, and the weird resolutions the cheaper ones use.

I have a Nexus One running CM7 RC4 (updating to CM7 stable now), stock android rocks CyanogenMod 7 just makes it better. Some friends of mine have various phones none of them hacked.

I find the Galaxy S quite good but after using CM the arbitrary restrictions of the various skins/ manufacturer mods to android annoy me.

So if you want to experience the fullest that android offers I would recommend heading over to http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices and check out the supported devices. CM is by far the biggest modder community for android.
