paulmilbank: Where are you based?
Eking have a shop in Auckland City if you are worried about an internet site disappearing with your money. $500 buys you quite a bit of choice in the phone market now.

They seem well regarded on this forum.
2 degrees also have the optimus one for $419, but I would rather have something like a Defy for the same money.

EKing ship their online orders out of China and don't give a damn about after sales service.
There is an old thread about them here. The HTC Desires they shipped would not upgrade to Froyo; their response was "Don't upgrade to Froyo, it is not good for that phone anyway" which anyone with a Desire can tell you is BS. Also shipping took 11 days as it was "Held up by customes for a drug check" and returned to them.

I recently used Mobicity for my Acer Iconia, ordered on a Monday they received bank transfer on Tuesday and I received Friday.

I find Expert Infotech the best so far, usually only a couple of dollars more expensive (sometimes cheaper) and you can pick up from the store.

Physical store with stock for me means theres somewhere I can go back to if I have any problems.
Have purchased more than once from them, including a DEFY which they shipped to the worksite.

Same ive spent thousands with them. just make sure you ring first if your going to pickup, sometimes items are stored at another site round the corner or something i think.

Its worth monitoring prices too - not sure about others, but Infotech have active pricing that changes on a daily basis (how this works when you hold stock, Im not sure - consignment?) but anyway - my defy started at $475 and I watched it drop over the period of about 2 weeks. I nearly bought at 420, got delayed for a day and went the next day getting the phone for 395. Rapt :-)

I've always had excellent service from Gadgets Online, they are not always the cheapest but I'd rather spend a few extra dollars and know that I'm buying from a reputable dealer.

heavenlywild: Go with the HTC Desire HD, just $150 more. It's an excellent mobile!

Unfortunately I cant get a full day (8hours) out of my Desire HD without being extremely miserly on data use, so whats the point of having a 3G Smartphone if you cant use data!

Ok, so I have decided on the Defy, from Expert Infotech. Payday tomorrow, so I should be able to get it then.

Thanks for the ideas and help! :-)

One quick question on it, can I use my XT sim in it? I want to use up all my existing credit before I port to 2degrees.
