Download this update.zip and IF its not already on the root of your SD card put it there and try flash another ROM. If it works let me know.

CdTDroiD: Also... do you have a file called update.zip on your SD card?

Not currently but I have seen it previously.

Finally got it working to a degree after using Alpha Rev 1.2 [?] and partioning my SD card; a warning that it would erase everything on the card in the process would have been nice, however easus recovery manager sorted me out although I did lose my titanium backups. Not a huge issue just a PITA to manually go and reinstall everything.

I say "to a degree" as I was able to install Redux but things like Gmail and Market would open for a split second then go away again, not crash just minimise and disappear.
I also tried Cool Kingdom v4 & 8 but again they wouldn't load past boot up logo unless I am expected to leave it for a very long time. I noticed Redux took a long time to get past this screen, so maybe other ROMs take even longer.

Some do.
Re the apps closing like that, I had a similar thing once. Just reflashed the ROM and that fixed it.

With some ROMs there is a seperate Google Apps zip file which might be my problem as Market & Gmail are presumable both part of these apps.

I will have another bash at it.

Thanks everyone for their help.
