I assume it has saved. Is there anyway to check the maps you have downloaded?

Youll find it under more > cache settings > downloaded map areas.

You can save up to 10 tiles.

However, Im interested to see that all of the 10 tiles I saved yesterday are now no longer there. I havent modified anything, so curious as to where they went.......

And, yes, it was 35MB, not GB - still a lot, mind you, for someone who normally manages to get by on 50MB a month!

No. The 35MB were chewed up yesterday using the google app 'My Tracks' while out on a cycle ride. I didn't realise I could download maps until this morning when I read the forum.

Google maps is better than Ovi with their satellite overlay but when it comes to use as a navigation device in the car Ovi maps with the turn by turn navigation is pretty hard to beat IMO. The ability to plan routes on your PC and then download to the phone is quite neat as well. There have a few updates recently with new features being added.

Have you tried the new turn by turn nav that comes with Gmaps? its pretty good. I havent tried the OVI turn by turn though.

To be honest, No I haven't, I guess because Ovi works so well (for me anyway) there's no need to try anything else. Also until now I didn't know there was an offline option for GMaps. The offline option is a big selling point for me so far as Ovi is concerned, you can have the phone in offline mode and all the GPS and mapping functions still work.

It was only a matter of time till someone else did the offline option.

I take the bus from Jville to Courtenay Pl when I go to town these days. There's one at 8:05am, the stop is 20 m from my driveway, I am usually one of the first five people on the bus, read my Kindle all the way to town and the last one at Courtenay Pl. Very happy, and costs a lot less than parking and petrol.

I actually didn't know the bus route until a few weeks ago - saving me a lot of money these days.

I miss long trips on public transport. In the UK I had to get a 40 min train into the city and I got through so many books when I wasn't zonked out against the window developing a flat spot on my forehead.

Now I have a 30 minute walk from Newtown and listen to podcasts, how times change.

I guess I’m looking at it like this... Nokia is soon switching from Symbian OS to Windows Phone for the majority of it's smartphones. Now without wanting to make this a Symbian vs WP7 vs Android vs 'others' thread, there might be a number of Symbian users that either see Android as a more natural change in OS for them, or for various reasons might be looking at other options... that's always true for any group of users of course, but with a forced change in OS there might be a better than usual opportunity for another system to attract those Symbian users away from Nokia.

So what might keep Symbian users with Nokia and entice them to switch to Windows Phone?
One of the main things could be preloaded Nokia maps that can be used offline.

In fact, it's my understanding that Microsoft might have the option to offer Nokia maps on other Windows Phones too.

So the timing seemed interesting, given those first Nokia Windows Phones might be coming end 2011/early 2012.
