I'm going to rearrange my posts in this thread and put all the neccessary information in the first post and keep that updated.

It will be a little easier for everyone to keep track of updates and easily find info that way.

Alright the OP has been updated with all the info needed to download and install the ROM on the U8180.

I will update that post with each new release.

Hi Brad, firstly I like how you've put everything you need, links etc in your first post.

Secondly thanks for your advice on my issues.

I am starting to develop a better understanding of how/what all these various processes are doing to the phone but alas I am still stuck on the same point ie. I can't reboot the phone into recovery mode. I have installed the recovery manager and flashed one of the recoveries (nb recovery manager says these recoveries are not recognized I assume this is normal??)
Anyway specifically the part I can't get past is when I try the reboot into recovery, my phone disappears from computer then reappears as a new device and looks for the drivers. It fails to find the necessary drivers (Android 1.0) on windows update, I have tried the link you provided from file factory and installed and run that program which said it installed some drivers but obviously not the ones I require because I am met with the same thing when trying to boot to recovery. I also let the installer search my entire drive for the relevant driver but it found nothing.
My phone appears only as as cd drive BEFORE I try the reboot to recovery, as I said as soon as I try the reboot it disappears from the computer and wants new drivers. I have also tried copying the drivers folder on the phone, to my desktop, and tried pointing the installer to that folder to search for the Android 1.0 driver but still no joy it cant find the necessary driver.

Any ideas????

Thanks in advance Karl

I'll dig around and find the drivers. You need separate drivers for recovery/fastboot.

However you should be able to boot into recovery by holding down Power + Volume Up until it appears.

Ok I have two lots of drivers for you.

1. ADB Drivers from stock 2.2 ROM: http://www.multiupload.com/JBTIST2IYD
2. Some random Huawei ones I found and which worked for me for recovery and fastboot: http://www.mediafire.com/?tbnn9gwdz9qx32p

Try them in that order, one of them will work.

OK I have just successfully done the reboot recovery!!!!! (at long last!!!!!), Because it seemed to be my computer that was stopping the process I just disconnected phone from usb before doing the reboot into recovery and everything seemed to work ok. Installed rom and gapps and rebooted, now it appears to be stuck in a loop. Starts with egg timer then moves to screen that says ANDROID then moves to telecom splash screen then the splash screen just seems to keep reloading every 15-20secs.

I should probably have mentioned that you need need to do a factory reset before flashing since you are going from 2.2 to 2.3.

You can do this in recovery, wipe everything except SD card and stats depending on which recovery you used. The first boot after a flash can take a while as well.

Glad to hear that's working for you. Hopefully you'll notice a huge difference in performance over 2.2.
