kiwijunglist: Does our have USB host
mode and can it read from external 2.5" hdd?

Can you use hdmi out and external hdd at same time? Ie play a movie from hdd and output to TV at same time?

What is the resolution of hdmi out?

Hi,

1. Yes it can support the USB Host Function – you will need to purchase an USB OTG Adapter though.

2. Yes it can read from a 2.5” HDD, however the output voltage from the USB Port may not be sufficient to power an External Drive without also using an external power adapter for the External HDD

3. Yes you can use both the USB Port and HDMI Out simultaneously

4. The HDMI Out display resolution is 1920 x 1080 (Full HD 1080p)

Hope this helps.

Since it has 3G built in, does that mean we can text/call off it?

Not sure about texts but from what I've read calls is a no go

I keep seeing reply notifications to this thread thinking its 2degrees PR asking for my address...

freitasm: This Huawei MediaPad just arrived here, and will be available 25 November from 2degrees.

  • 7" WXGA (1280x800)
  • Capacitive screen
  • Dual core 1.2 GHz
  • 5 MP camera
  • MicroSD
  • Bluetooth 2.1 EDR
  • GPS/AGPS
  • 4100 mAh battery
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 3G

The model I have here comes with 8GB storage. Trying to find out prices... Price is $549 with 2GB data included.

I only have it here for a couple of weeks, so please let me know if you want to run any benchmarks.

So what did you think of it after a couple of days usage? pros/cons? I am sort of in the market for a tab and would trade screen size for metal construction :)

Good battery life. Quite responsive, and the size is just right to actually carry - even in a jacket pocket. A device I'd consider if I needed a tablet now.

I quite liked the feel of it to be honest, the aluminium unibody seemed to give it some heft without being too heavy. The one I played with in the 2degrees shop seemed quite responsive too. Ideally, I'd prefer a galaxy tab - but no expandable storage seems like a bit of a short coming. The asus tf201 looks like it could be awesome, but might be priced a bit too high for me in the near to mid future.

@Mauricio or 2degrees
How did you go connecting it with your PC? Ive downloaded HiSuite (a slightly older version) and looking at the current download page it still doesnt support the MediaPad? So that hasnt worked... Currently downloading the newer version but the mirror is very slow. Have read it does sync fine

Enabled USB debugging and stay awake under development as hisuite suggests and nothing just yet

Any ideas?

EDIT: Just sent the device APK to myself and connected across Wi-Fi. But it still wont allow me to take screenshots and I dont think the tablet or windows is even detecting it is connected via USB

EDIT2: Newest version of HiSuite got SD card access working, USB still isnt working as far as Im aware. Cant take a screenshot through HiSuite or ddms.bat

Still havent gotten the USB to work. Even USB tethering is telling me its not connected. A faulty USB port? Will ring customer service on Monday if i cant get it figured out as screenshots and such are critical to any decent review.

For those interested here are some random thoughts Ive put together so far:

There are two settings for resolution, standard and high. High gives more homescreen room but makes txt smaller. It also makes tbe honeycomb UI smaller. Id recommend standard. I do not believe it changes the physical resolution of the screen, just the sizes of elements.

The default Huawei keyboard is horrible. Even after giving it a warming period i changed back to the honeycomb default keyboard ASAP. Plus the huawei keyboard only gives suggestions and doesnt correct. eg while "theb" will suggest "then" with Honeycomb KB, with Huawei it gives nothing

When fully charged it doesn't appear to discharge to 95% then charge up again or remain charged at 100%. Instead it will start to discharge constantly, very annoying when charged overnight. This morning I took it off the charger and did 20mins of RSS feed reading and battery was at 63% (didnt notice the percentage before that. Not cool. I have to test this again though as it may have been as one off

Oh and my area seems to be in a 2degrees mobile broadband deadspot :(

I asked but the PR agency said it couldn't be done.
