BigMal: I just paid youshop $28 (including compensation cover) for 2 phones to be forwarded to NZ. Not bad.

Nice! Did you have a discount code or did they package them into one box?

I assume google packaged them together.  No discount code was used.

kiwijunglist: I know nothing about that store, which is why I'd recommend friends to pay $20 more and buy from 2degrees. If you want to save money, then I would recommend buy direct from google in the USA for around $525 incl GST+P&P

PS. The shop is probably ok based on this:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/961469

However I don't think the $20 saving is significant.

I would agree, but 2 degrees will not be selling the 32GB model...

Did you guys notice this

"This product will be in stock on Friday 15 November, 2013."

Yes - seems nowhere in NZ will have it any earlier than this regardless.

And 2degrees to get the Nexus 5:

Following the success of the Nexus 4, LG and Google have partnered once again to deliver the first smartphone to feature the latest Android operating system, Android 4.4, KitKat. Packed with new features, the Nexus 5 is the slimmest and fastest Google Nexus phone to date.

With a stunning 5-inch Full HD IPS display, Nexus 5 boasts an expansive screen for a fantastic visual experience. The lightweight smartphone is the perfect combination of powerful performance, functionality and convenience thanks to LG’s hardware and the best of Google’s software and services.

“LG and Google’s first collaboration, the Nexus 4, was a huge success in NZ so we’re excited to be partnering with Google once again to build on this success,” said Glen Chean, National Marketing Manager for LG Electronics New Zealand. “Nexus 5 offers ground-breaking functionality in a modern design, and is a testament to the level of innovation that can be generated when two companies such as LG and Google come together for a second time.”

“We’re excited to collaborate with LG on a new Nexus device,” said Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome, and Apps at Google. “Google Nexus 5 is the slimmest and fastest Nexus phone to date and puts the latest platform innovations of Android 4.4, KitKat, right in the hands of consumers.”

“2degrees is very pleased to follow up last year’s Nexus 4 with the new Nexus 5,” says Malcolm Phillipps, Chief Marketing Officer at 2degrees. “We have seen a very loyal and enthusiastic group of customers who love the Android experience they get from the Nexus devices. This is the perfect platform to take advantage of our Carryover and Shared Data offerings.”

The Nexus 5 camera features LG’s acclaimed optical image stabilizer technology, which was first introduced in LG products, and the new LG G2. The Nexus 5 features an 8MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for taking video and images with less blur than non OIS enabled phones. Nexus 5 also includes Photo Sphere making it easy to capture a series of images and turn them into a 360-degree experience. The device can also now create Auto Awesome photos and movies from the content in your library to share with friends and family via Google. Additionally, the improved HDR+ mode in the Nexus 5 capturesa burst of shots and applies computational photography to intelligently fuse these images together into one perfect photo with a greater range of shadows and light culled from the multiple exposure and colour data.

Nexus 5 is the world’s first phone running Android 4.4, KitKat, offering the power of Google in a thin and lightweight device that retains a solid and reassuring feel. With a blazing fast SnapdragonTM 800 processor and 4G (LTE) network capability, Nexus 5 also boasts a 445 ppi Full HD IPS display with advanced in-cell touch technology that enables smooth touch recognition, bright outdoor visibility, and clear and crisp images. This set of features is packaged into a sleek, modern design that leaves no doubt that this is Google’s premium smartphone.

Android 4.4 is fast, powerful, and simple to use. The new contact dialer system automatically suggests contacts the more frequent you call them whilst Google Caller ID matches an incoming phone number to a business even if that number isn’t stored withinthe contact list. Furthermore, users can send and receive text messages directly from Hangouts, and Hangouts for Android now supports location sharing.

With Gmail, Chrome, Calendar, Maps, Drive, and Hangouts, Nexus 5 helps users manage their day-to-day lives with familiar, easy-to-use applications. With Google Now, initiating a voice search is as simple as saying “Ok, Google,” and with more than one million apps and games, plus movies, books, and music on Google Play, it’s easier than ever to find what you’re looking for.

The Nexus 5 will be available in New Zealand through 2degrees stores and Warehouse Stationery stores nationwide in black and white from mid November at a recommended retail price of $699 with a 24 month warranty.

Looks like we are on the same bus (so to speak), mine also left Louisville at 6:01, it just arrived in Hodgkins, IN an hour or 2 ago. Maybe show up in Portland tomorrow or is it going by truck all the way?

I hope not! According to Google Maps that's a 2100 mile, 30-hr journey!

The Nexus 5 will be available in New Zealand ... at a recommended retail price of $699

The 16GB Nexus5 retails for $350 in the US.  With GST and currency conversion, that's still well under $500.  I would like to know what the extra $200 premium added to the RRP is for.

Posted before, warrenty, extra cost of retail and stock holding etc
Sure its more but if the phone breaks you can just take it back and be covered, if you get it from the US then you have to send it back to the US etc

Let me break it down for you...

Google Play Store US
Nexus 5 (16GB): 349 USD
Shipping: 9.99 USD
YouShop shipping fee: ~25 NZD
Customs tax: ~115 NZD (from http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/)
12-month warranty: free (provided you ship to/from US at your own cost)

Total: ~575 NZD

2degrees
Nexus 5 (16GB): 699 NZD
24-month warranty: free

Difference
~125 NZD

Most US mobile providers offer the phone at 100 USD above Google's price (which is subsidised). This is around 120 NZD. Not only that, you're getting an extra 12-months of warranty, as well as the ease of being able to deal with any problems locally.

tl;dr 2degrees are offering a fantastic deal, do your research before throwing around random numbers.

erlend: They have the Nexus 5 listed on becextech.co.nz. Both 16GB and 32GB models for $679 and $739 respectively. Seems like a reasonable price for NZ, and it says they'll be in stock from 15th November. Anyone else extremely tempted?

Is it the international version or the USA version they are selling?

Your numbers aren't entirely accurate because you're comparing the import costs of a single imported phone vs a bulk import.  2 degrees would be getting the same international version that is sold in Aussie for $450 NZD so I think it's more than reasonable to ask why there is such a big difference in price and I think it's far from fantastic when compared to what Australian's pay.
