For those who have a spare PS3 controller:

http://gizmodo.com/5932644/turn-your-phone-into-a-ps-vita-that-has-games-you-want-to-play

$15US but the shipping is a bit steep to NZ. I like the fact that he has also made up cables (I assume they are  Micro-Mini USB cables but with one end swapped) if you don't want to root.

Might have to keep an eye out for ebay knock-offs with free shipping that will surely appear.

So many good games now but still too hard to use touchscreen controls.

BTW, anyone have a recommendation for an app which will tell me which of my free apps are using up my battery by syncing in background? I'm sure I should be getting better battery life (only 2.5 hours screen time and down to 30% by the end of the day sometimes). There is nothing obvious in the built in battery use stats.

Cheers,
Nick

NZTechfreek: My S3 is rooted. The ps3 controller I got is Laser brand and comes with wireless adapter like the one we have for wireless mouse. There is nowhere in the box mentioned bluetooth. I already have otg cable, will check your YouTube video soon. Thanks for your help.

NZtechfreak:

If it's a genuine PS3 controller it is a bluetooth one (bluetooth transmits over 2.4ghz also).

It will work with your S3 unrooted via a USB OTG cable (cost a few dollars only to purchase), but limited number of games it will work with. Works with many more games, even those without native support for gamepads, if your S3 is Rooted. Check out my YouTube channel for demos of both connection types - search for "S3 connectivity demo" to find the wired demo video and you can browse in the channel to the other one showing Nova 3 with a PS3 controller wirelessly.

Ah just opened up the box and found a Wifi transmitter. So I guess this PS3 controller is using this adapter plug into the PS3 to work?

networkn: Man I am feeling so frustrated. I think I actually dislike my S3. I am on my 3rd one already and I just can't seem to get decent Wifi with it. I just installed a top of the line Access point, I have 5 bars of signal everywhere in my house with all of my wireless devices (2 tablets, 2 phones, 3 laptops, and a media streamer), but my s3, loses signal 5m from the access point. I have tried 20Mhz, 40Mhz, mixed mode, different channels, everything I can think of.

I am nearly at the point of returning my s3 for a refund and getting another phone.

Anyone able to shed any light? Able to share their experiences with WiFI and whether they consider the wifi good or bad on the S3 in general, better or worse than any other device they own?

No issues with wifi connectivity. signal drops to one bar where my laptop shows three bars. Still haven't experienced and issues like disconnect while on VOIP cal etc. Happy so far except that it gets warm when in pocket when no wifi access is available. I guess it keeps searching for wifi access. I disabled the wifi and it seems to be Ok.

kiwitrc: Be careful buying cheap SD cards, you will be lucky to get a quality one at a good price.

I think I'm one of the lucky one then :)

I got 2 Sandisk and both are great

Yup.. they are great ay Integer :)

Yes couldn't be more happier :)

Now I also have a Targus Bluetooth keyboard connected to my S3 at work. Haha 3 keyboards on my desk. 1 for each computer and 1 for my phone. Loving it. And I only pay $38 bucks for the bluetooth keyboard, it arrived today from Acquires.co.nz

Not to mention I got a PS3 controller from Acquires for $8 as well + $6 50CDR. Awesome deal. Love the Timebomb deal aye.

Oh forget to mentioned that my GooseBerry Board running ICS is also here :D

Waiting for my Mini HDMI and I'm good to go :)

I see you mention the Targus Bluetooth keyboard...has anyone had any experience with the following KB  mini bluetooth keyboard...looks ideal for when travelling and neeeding to pump out some emails as it apprears smaller than the Targus

Oh, you may have trouble with that I'm afraid. Third party controllers are very patchy in terms of whether they will work with Sixaxis Controller (and as a general rule they don't work via USB OTG at all). Best of luck, hope yours is the exception!

Really not sure if I should root, given my workmates S3 works perfectly in the same environment.

What do you recommend to backup if I don't have root? Kies? I might just try a factory reset.

Have you tried a custom kernel with more recent wifi drivers?

No, I am worried I have a hardware fault, and if that is the case, then it should go back. Rooting and ROMing is just a pain. I guess I could try it, which one do you recommend?

Maybe worth seeing if someone who has no issues with wifi on their S3 pop to wherever you have the problem and see if their phone behaves the same. Must be some GZ members in AK near you who will help while casing your house?

If you want to go down that path I'd recommend the latest stable Siyah kernel:

http://www.gokhanmoral.com/public/files/siyahkernel-s3/v1/Siyah-s3-v1.4.tar

You'd have be super-unlucky to have defective hardware on more than one phone - is there anything else that could be interfering with it?

Well it has to be hardware really. I just did a factory reset. My workmates S3 connects to my wireless at home, my newly factory reset, won't connect. Prompts for the password and immediately shows "secured, saved".

If I walk to the access point, it will suddenly get an ip address about 4 meters from the AP itself.

If I ping from both devices to my router, as I walk around the house there are around 8 places I don't get a reply from mine, that DOES reply on the workmates S3.

I am partially torn to see if the custom kernel helps, but I am of the opinion that it wouldn't help.
