As mentioned previously. Please be careful with those websites. You'll get pinged with gst and customs fees etc on top of that.

Dobblar: Just been on Mobicity and they have 16gb black Nexus 5 in stock apparently. Selling for $649, anyone ever brought from them before?

Why would you?
Wait a week and get from WHS or 2degrees

It's been really interesting watching the list of local suppliers gradually increase on PriceSpy (currently there are 5). Then watching as they all start dropping their prices to move further up the list. Some of them seem to be indicating that they already have them in stock. Bit hard to really tell though, because most of them will be mailing them in from overseas.

And pay another $50?
If they are legit I could have it and save $50 by the time WHS have it

No because that mobicity is not showing the GST and shipping charge, plus by time you get it WHS would have it out.
WHS is due on the 15th
Plus if anything goes wrong with the phone then you just take it back to the shop, not having to send it away to a website and waiting and only contact is phone or email

If you go to the checkout, it's actually $785.46 after GST and shipping + no Warranty + it could be the US version with LTE problems in NZ?

It could be the US version, but most likely it's been sourced from Hong Kong or Asia somewhere and would more likely be the international version.

They do offer a basic local warranty IIRC. Plus extended warranties for $moonbeams.

Read their GST policy etc. You'll be paying more for it than you could get it for from 2degrees/Warehouse Stationery.

Wade: Reading the N5 owners book or whatever it was that i found on the mighty interwebz I note that the N5 has a few features that are clearly listed as unique and not found on the GPe versions, given their aggressive stance on fragmentation and to a lessor extent on OEM skins, I would have thought keeping a cohesive UI and featureset across premium 4.4 enabled handsets would be of more interest than marketing the N5 as feature rich by comparison

I wasn't aware that there was a Google Play edition (GPe?). Aren't there just 2 models, the D820 and D821...

Sorry my bad, the booklet covered Android 4.4 for the N5, and the GPe versions of One & S4

My package has finally arrived in Portland. Now the wait for YouShop to contact me so I can pay. I'm guessing still a couple of weeks away considering it needs to get to NZ/clear customs etc. When someone's comes through customs, let us know how the process goes and what sort of time frames we're looking at. I'm tempted to just buy one locally! Haha

nathan: How's the camera in real life? Sounds like a software update is needed there

To be fair you're comparing a mediocre phone running a pretty average OS that has the best camera of any phone on the market with one of the best phones on the market that has an average camera and cutting edge OS.

A Nokia 1020 has a better camera
A Galaxy Note 2 has a better battery
An iPhone 5 has a faster camera
An Xperia Z is more waterproof

etc etc

But as an all rounder at a really great price I dont see many phones that can compete.
I am likely to go from a Note 2 to a N5 for the best all round pure google experience.

Google phones are great but it's interesting that Google don't seem to put too much effort in their cameras. I haven't seen picture taken with the N5 yet but it's supposed to have optical image stabilisation which would help with a sharper image but does little to help if the original image sensor etc. is not top notch.

How hard can it be to put a decent camera on their flagship device?

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

From what I've read, it's not all that bad. The main reason would be cost. They're selling these phones for a lot cheaper remember. Something needs to give. Nexus devices aren't made for all.

This is a pretty good review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp6clWG-b5c
