networkn:

Heya. I had a pair of the Momentums lined up to purchase for $250, but it's not worked out (no-ones fault), if anyone else is keen to move their (ideally unopened) pair, I'd be keen.

PM'd you!

ettexor:

got mine yesterday and got things setup, this morning I changed the sim over from my old phone and decided to do the Android update immediately...is anyone finding the call volume really low?  I have the call volume set to maximum but it is still very low and hard to hear the other person speaking.  Unfortunately I am not sure if this issue was pre-existing before I did the android update because I hadn't made any calls before doing it...

Sounded the same before and after. I remember to my embarrassment complaining about volume on a previous ph. turned out I had the screen protector covering the speaker!

Does anyone know if I have to buy directly from Samsung to be eligible for the trade-in offer?

That information is very clearly on the trade-in webpage.

(give a man a fish, teach a man to fish etc...)

I just got one off Samsung in Riccarton mall ($25 including fitting).  It's a plastic one but they claimed that it's a magic self healing plastic that reabsorbs scratches.  Time will tell on that one but given the problems with glass screen protectors I was happy with the compromise for the price.

Other than that try Affordable Computers in wigram in a week or two.  They had the glass ones on order and price includes them fitting it.

I think I have the same screen protector with me. It feels like it's made out of rubber or something. Definately 'selg healing' though because the Samsung rep sort of screwed up the installation but promised that the bubbles and scratches will be gone by three days. After one night surprisingly all bubbles magically disappeared. Not sure how they did it but it works so that's nice.

I haven't used a screen protector since my S4... I found them to be a tiny bit rubbery and made the screens significantly less smooth to use and swype with. Are these non-glass ones from Samsung better than they were in the past?

@networkn

I assume you have not got your phone yet ?.

I hope you get it monday, i was worried it would not be noticeable from the note 8. But heavy users like myself and maybe you, will see its quite a nice refinement. I am enjoying it a lot and the 8gb version is much worth it IMO.

Re screen protectors. They are always a compromise. I had successfully used tempered glass ones for about 5 phones because of the sliding issues with the plastic ones mentioned above. They feel just like glass because they are and they also provide some level of breakage protection on the most vulnerable part of the screen. Some of them could be fingerprint magnets but that comes down to the quality of the costing on the screen protector. Sadly that all came to a crashing end with the advent of curved screens. Do now we have the choice of naked, crappy glass ones or plastic. I went naked on the side+ until I broke it which is the first screen I have ever broken. The s8+ so let's also scratched really which is also traumatic for preciousssss.

Back to the question the sliding on the Samsung glass one seams ok. I am slightly dubious about the bubbles and I got the same explanation that others have mentioned. I scanned the reference received receipt and will go back if what they say isn't true.

The Whitestone Dome glass protector that uses uv cured glue is up on amazon if anyone wants to o that route.  I think I will stick with the plastic for now but everyone says that this is the best glass protector for the curved screens.  Flossy Carter has an installation video on youtube.

For some this will be the most significant post in this thread.... For others meh. laughing

Other than the amazing PB bundle, my beaten up old S7 - the Fortnite Galaxy skin was yet another reason to upgrade. Don't play myself, but the kids do,  it continues to be useful tool to get them to do home work, dishes and all manner of other chores. smile They'll pretty much walk over broken glass for a V-Bucks pack. smile

Galaxy skin in NZ - CONFIRMED! Woke up this morning, asked my 11 year old son to fire up Fortnite on the Note 9. You've have thought he'd won Lotto. I'd installed and reinstalled it a couple of times yesterday (as I found different instructions). Played 3 solo's last night and went to bed. Apparently it can take 24 to 48hrs to show up. Even then I wasn't sure if they'd remembered to invite NZ to the party! So pleasantly surprised this morning. Screenshot below.

$70 for a screen protector? Yikes. Can someone please justify its price for me?
