kawaii:

Is it possible for the carrier to offer an 'early adopters' update before it is officially provided by Samsung or does Samsung prefer to be the only distributor of updates?

Is it possible that Samsung did not give a damn about Vodafone update file and may have already forgotten to push it to OTA update? JohnR said it will be available 10-14days after approval but this is clearly not in this case. May be it is time to start flashing International ROM lol.

Actually given the ease with which one can update android, Samsung anyway, with custom roms I don't really see the issue. I understand that a lot want stock Rom's and thats fine but there are obviously drawbacks in this. I would think that the majority of android users couldn't give a dam about updates and when you look at what they actually are I don't see why it becomes so emotive.

My S2 on GB was very stable, the change to the S3 with ICS was great and no issues but I like to try the new custom roms and to be honest haven't really seen a major differance in any of the roms and think it can be placebo effect or just wanting to have the latest and greatest.

I'm on JB LI4 with 5 just released and apart from fixing some bugs ICS was better.

This is all subjective I suppose but instead of blaming Samsung or the telco's just flash a custom rom if you see it as that important. The voiding of warranty, I think, is a bit over done and have as yet to read in any off the forums I'm in that a genuine warranty has been turned down. By genuine I mean a proper factory fault not some idiot flashing first and reading up after the problems happen.

If you want to use the Snapper app, you need a 2 Degrees ROM Frown

True, maybe that is the long term solution - wait till the international non-branded ROM is made available rather than waiting for the blame game between the various factions begins.

Once international JB is out on S3 then I'm going to jump ship. Hate carrier branded phone for this reason.

Brendan:

Completly irrelevant.
Sharpness has very little to do with hardness, and these stupid videos of people with knives and scissors are the work of imbeciles and idiots. They prove nothing and even normal glass will not scratch by a pair of scissors.
What they should test is sand, rubbed with a thumb on the screen. The same sand you sometimes find in your pocket. It will then scratch.

For what when you can watch videos on youtube of them scratching scissors on the screen and no marks resulting?

Yes it is harden and scratch resistant but it is not unscratchable. Protecting is better than repairing.
My colleague has an S3 and it already had a scratch on the screen after two weeks.
I'm sticking to "better be safe than sorry" phrase.

I agree. Same rant i had. Cause everyday people hack away at their phones with scissors and knives.

Are people still having redraw/lag issues with the home screen??
Running latest Vodafone firmware and standard touchwhiz(same prob other launchers) I often get a blank home screen when pressing back or home particularly after using a browser. The screen blank for a couple of secs then the app icons redraw.

From searches online I have ffound this was a problem with old firmware .. is my s3 faulty or is this a common issue??

I have disabled weather apps and voice double tap launch

No your phone is not faulty. The firmware is. Vodafone firmware is not latest firmware. It is one of the oldest one you can find. Latest one was approved about 4 weeks go but yet to show up in the OTA update.

Problem is RAM limitation on International S3. Once the RAM getting low, background apps killer kicked in to aggressively to free available RAM and that causing the launcher to reload as well.

There is no problem like this on the Korean, German, Japan and US version S3. Only European and International getting this issue because of 780MB RAM available. Korean and US version has 2GB RAM.
