ipsearch: Got the new S3 from Noelleeming, I am surprised that the firmware is of Vodafone and I was of the impression that I had got an unlocked phone? Are there different firmwares in NZ other then the XT one ? If yes any difference or which one is better ?

I am enjoying S3, definitely its far I am sure will outrun Iphone 5. I guess I will flash the new firmware of JB in few days if Samsung does on officially releases it.

Btw I am on 2deg prepay.

Without knowing the specifics here I cant imagine they should be selling you a vodafone branded phone if you are buying a off contract handset.

Unless you go to a parallel importer you have to go with one that is from one of the mobile phone companies as that is who supplies the phones to the stores, I bought mine out right from Warehouse Stationary but as they only sold 2Degrees one's I got a 2degrees branded one even though I am on vodafone.

There is some issues around the T model at times so I just recommend not getting a T model.

Do DSE have GSIII's as part of their parallel imported models?

Vodafone branding is not tied down to contract. It is just a phone with Vodafone firmware/settings in it. I got a Vodafone S3 from Noel Leeming as well. It has VNZ as CSC, though I'm going to get rid of Vodafone completely once JB is out. I hate Vodafone firmware or any other carrier branding. Too long to wait for firmware update.

International S3 firmware seems to be good enough :)

Mine is on 2degrees and came from Dick Smith but had no branding at all that I could find.

No mention in the box or the phone software that it has anything to do with 2degrees.

Yes correct, 2degrees S3 is unbranded and doesn't have carrier specific in the firmware. Consider yourself lucky. :)
More painful like one of us Vodafone S3 owners, we still waiting for the approved MR that Mr. JohnR mentioned a month ago.

In that case would it be correct to assume that the S3s from 2degrees would be able to update to jellybean when it comes out internationally and not have to wait for 2degrees to push it through once they "approve" it...

If the 2D jobbies are unbranded then why did the VFNZ handsets get an update before 2D handsets recently? :)

Anyway, I would recommend trying the latest Li8 jelly Bean test rom, it is significantly better than all previous which since about Li5 have all been pretty much bugfree

The second one. You know CSC? Carrier branding like Telecom has TNZ and Vodafone has VNZ but 2Degrees has something like the international unlocked version.

Branding doesn't have to have boot logo. But setting and firmware revision.

Oh really? I'm on Vodafone firmware for over two months now and I am still haven't seen **** update from Vodafone.
XLF2 is the firmware I have since unboxed my phone.

My SGS3 from 2Degrees had the home page set to 2Degrees mobile site so I suppose it was modified to 2Degrees setting to some extent.. Plus the OTA update that we recieved, it most likely was from 2Degrees as well..

Oh must be the newer 2degrees version of S3 had it included. The first batch doesn't have carrier settings. But it could be later was changed to 2degrees. I'm going with unbranded firmware :)

Yeah true.. thats where it would have come from originally.. but my question is was it pushed by 2Degrees or did it update from the samsung servers..??

As advised advised above Samsung Korea pushes these out once approved not the carriers

Vodafone NZ has a OTA update approved weeks back and our customers are still waiting for Samsung Korea to load it, It's meant to be approx 10 business working days once approved by carrier,
