yah may be. at work i get 3 bars and home around 4 bars (though i can see cell tower from my home!!). I dont know that cell tower is 2degrees one anyway.

I'm like you. I've got all the features turned on, receive about 30 texts a day and dozens of emails, make a few calls and play some games. I usually get about 2 days out of a full charge, which means I put it on the charger every second night.

See, I was good on the original ROM too...but since this Polish jobby, battery struggles to get a day.

I might just try that, will try airplane mode tomorrow for a few hours at a time, should see if its cell coverage then?

Cell coverage for me is pretty good, always seem to be on full bars of XT, running stock ICS from Telecom, unrooted still ( I know, I cant believe I havnt rooted yet myself). Live in Henderson at work in Takapuna at the moment, so pretty main areas for coverage I would assume.

Vodafone signal is quiet weak and people who have Telecom sim card have better indoor reception. I have friends who have better signal than my Vodafone phone. I did asked him if he really expertise in this area then give out some good suggestions to save battery.

Well that would depend on location I could take you places Vodafone have great 3G coverage and Telecom little or no 3G coverage and I am sure a Telecom employee could do the same vice versa

Coverage foot prints between carriers are not mirror imaged.

But with that being said Vodafone's addiction to 2100Mhz for 3G doesn't help the situation either - as I've said in the past, high frequency against the terrain and the terrain will always win and until Vodafone has end to end 900Mhz coverage of NZ the coverage is always going to be spotty at best. I'm sitting in the Hutt Valley and no matter where I stand the coverage by Vodafone is horrible where as with Telecom I don't have a single problem. The solution - get those towers pumping out a 900Mhz signal.

Its not a addiction to 3G on 2100Mhz at all we still have to run a 2G network on 900Mhz if Vodafone NZ came out tomorrow and said that's it 2G 900Mhz is getting switched off tomorrow (it's not BTW) think of the uproar

3G on 900Mhz was not around when the 3G network was first built and turned on in late 2005

Crazy but true, my Nexus 7 is primarily used from morning until now (16hrs) and still sitting on 52% battery. Connected to wifi all day and Screen on time is 3hrs:46mins. I'm typing from it right now.
My Galaxy S3 when turned on 3G data connection today and my battery dropped rapidly. Screen on time is only 1hr 43mins and I'm sitting on 42% after 8hours and mainly on standby.

Both Nexus and S3 has the same applications, settings and configurations. One without cellular but both on wifi all the time.
Is 3G data power drain really this bad? I can use the Nexus 7 all day and pushing it but yet still only get half way through battery. I'm sure something to do with DLI8 modem inside the Jelly Bean firmware is really battery hungry.

When deactivate data connection on S3 (even ICS), I got 2 days (47hrs) usage. But enabling it only get me through 12hrs at most. Do we really need data on all the time when the phone die flat in 12hours? I minimised all sync already but still not enough.

It seems like 3G data always connected even on wifi. My phone never slept.

I have an issue with my text message icon permanently showing one unread message (circle with 1 in it). I have tried everything short of a factory reset. I seem to remember this occurring on my S1. Anyone else had this issue and know a fix?

My rooted Stock ICS XT S3 has been on 23 hours now.

48% battery remaining, exactly 50% of this total usage is cell standby, and 23% of it is screen.

Last night at 8pm it was 52%, so 4% drain overnight seems pretty good to me.

5 - 10mins calling, a Skype call of 10 mins, 30 or 40 texts, 10-15minutes of web browsing on 3G, 15 mins playing with Tasker and SetCPU and uninstalling several apps.

Turned off Tasker, turned off sync, mobile data, wifi, (and manually on as needed), uninstalled Viber and Whatsapp a few weeks ago (5000 sms FTW). Turned off auto-brightness and set to around 15%, and timeout to 10 seconds (instead of 1 minute).

Also set Tasker to limit CPU speed to 200-400Mhz (very usable, but not snappy, it feels like a good $300 phone at 400MHz).

This is relatively light usage for me to be fair, but I wanted to see how good it could be.

Have installed BetterBatteryStats around 7pm last night, but haven't looked at it since.

Using Tasker to turn radios on/off as needed, and generally making good use of the phone, I consistently drop to 0-20% remaining by 7pm.

Being very aggressive with brightness, running apps, and radios, is clearly the key.

Go to the Message thread (Stock Message) and keep scrolling up until you reached the top. That will fix your problem.

Problem like this occurred when you have more than 1 SMS apps on your device and still leave "notification enable" on both of them.

Why don't you try my suggestions?

1. Deactivate Data mode (power > deactivate)
2. Settings > wifi > Advanced > Stay connected only when plugged in.
3. Maps > setting > disable location sharing, disable report from this device, disable Automatic check-in
4. Don't leave Facebook, Skype sync on.
5. Never leave SKYPE on running (It's a blood sucker app).

You should now see your battery last longer if not by twice.

This is worth doing if before considering to move back to ICS. Or flash LF2 modem and that should fixed some Data connection drain. (My assumptions and from my own experiments).

Only difference is that the cards Networkn was getting were guaranteed the real thing.
