1eStar: I was waiting for the note 8 replacement to materialise. I gave up when I saw the lg 8.3 g-pad for $260. The only thing lacking for me is the s-pen. Kit kat is more of a pain than anything else. It removes sd writing permission for downloaded apps. It really cripples the system. There is also no access to core system process to ascertain wakelocks for example. I wouldn't be bemoaning the lack of kitkat.

That is kind of why I posed the question. When (and if) the update does arrive it would be good to be forewarned about any pitfalls as well as advantages to accepting it. I run KK on my transformer and it seems to access the SD okay. Mind you it is rooted with a custom ROM. If it means having to root the device to get the thing running properly that wouldn't be the end of the world. There is the issue of the additional security that Samsung added in the form of KNOX framework. I have no experience with modifying Samsung devices.
As far as I could tell, the SD writing limitation is for an app to access another app's folder on the SD. It should still be able to access its own.

I have just received my KitKat update! To 4.4.2 mind you. I will have to look back but that must be at least 6-8 months since the roll out started. Still mustn't look a gift house in the mouth

I will need to revisit the KK-only apps that weren't available on jelly bean. The update (750MB) must have given the system a colonic rinse because it seems to be running a little smoother and will hopefully improve the battery life, which until now, has been abysmal.

Pretty ironic that I'm sitting waiting for my HTC One (M7) to get updated to Lollipop and this arrives. Better late than never.

I got impatient and installed a UK version of the KitKat update on my Note 8. But since then I've been getting overheating warnings, and excessive RAM usage. According to some searches, this is a reasonably common occurrence with the KitKat firmware. I wonder if this NZ version has fixed this..?

Did the overheating and ram usage start straight away, or over time? I hope I'm not going to regret this update.

What model are you guys on? I've got the LTE version and no sign of any update from 4.1.2 for me. Might have to look at a custom ROM but haven't seen any that include very good s-pen support.

GT-N5110 - it's the WiFi version.

Within a few days I noticed it. A partial workaround is to restart the tablet every day or two.

So far no overheating or RAM problems. But I do usually shut it down each night. I have already experienced the dreaded inability for apps to access the SD card (really dumb Google) but that gave me an excuse to finally root my Note 8 to regain access.
