timmmay: Pretty much, yeah. I suspect a vodafone firmware will work fine on the telecom network anyway, and vice versa, the main thing is the frequencies used. If i'm wrong one of the experts will correct me on that last point.

hmm i might just change to telecom, for its free LTE 4g and faster 4.3 update

The update will be dependent on the existing firmware and hardware model, not on the SIM in use. Inserting a Telecom SIM won't make it update faster.

You purchased it from JB HiFi and I think they only sell Vodafone phones so your phone is the running the Vodafone version of the firmware, changing the sim will not change this.

You purchased it from JB HiFi and I think they only sell Vodafone phones so your phone is the running the Vodafone version of the firmware, changing the sim will not change this.

oooooooh. ok i see. i understand it now i think. but i think i will still use telecom since it has free 4g to prepaid customers ;)

p.s. i have to say this is very confusing when compared to the iphone. iphone and jailbreaking to me was very easy lol

You won't get the 4.3 update any faster by using a Telecom sim, however on the previous page I've got the firmware file if you wish to flash via ODIN (then from here, your phone will be a Galaxy S4 Telecom edition) but once you flash this, there's no way to go back to either the 2degrees or Vodafone firmware. This firmware image has LTE enabled and is all set for Telecom, you'll also get OTA updates through it. If you attempt to flash anything else after this you'll void your warranty so once you flash, you've got a Telecom S4 forever.

To the rooters:
I'm prepared to make a pre-rooted image of the Telecom firmware if anyone is interested? This will include KNOX, will be ODIN / Heimdall flashable and will not destroy your KNOX counter but you'll have root. It looks like if you're already on 4.3 you can't have root without destroying your KNOX counter but I'm currently working on finding a way around this (since I'm currently running 4.3) - if anyone is interested +1 this post.

thanks for the suggestion but since i am new to android platform i am still new to rooting and flashing firmware. so will not attempt it until i gain more knowledge.

so i just checked my CSC and my s4 is the vodafone model. if i decided to change to telecom sim card ie its network, will i be able to use its 4g network once it is released on 12th november? and from then on my firmware update will still be a vodafone approved version even though i am using telecom network?

Update: The pre-rooted image won't happen, just reading online it seems it breaks OTA and with the KNOX bootloader it can create a mess. If you're wanting to try for yourself here's the directions: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/universal-root-de-la-vega-script/ - you can update via OTA without making KNOX angry by flashing the stock unmodified rom via ODIN after a factory reset then running the OTA update **Confirmed**

If you're updating from 4.2.2 you're safe with the above method, if you have 4.3 it will likely trip KNOX, I'm not prepared to do it on my 4.3 device just in case but if you're running 4.2.2 I could successfully create a rooted image using the above directions but couldn't test it ;)

Branding doesnt matter too much

That's a good point... I put in quite a bit of time to remove all the crap from my 4.2 ROM. If I upgrade to 4.3 I'll have to do it all over again.

I usually run rooted and was already on a custom 4.3 rom (no knox), but restored it completely before taking it back - knox efuse intact. My fingers are crossed but I have a nasty feeling it'll be returned with a freshly installed Telecom 4.3 firmware and I'll have to void the warranty on order to root it.

damn brah, i had a bad battery on my gs4 too! it was overheating on the back where camera is and on front top half of screen. was heating up like crazy from just listening to music. so i went and bought new battery now everything iz fine mate

The top half of the screen is where the motherboard and cpu is, so yeah it can get hot
