Quick question for the Sony users out there. How is the software skin? I used to demo model in stores and i felt a lag on the demo units. I thought it could be because of all the demo and bloatware they load on it. I know the battery life is terrific and the handling of the phone is premium. Just wondering about the software and how the software is?

My Z1 and Z2 are smooooth. Better than any samsung I had. It doesn't help when people go in and play with everything, try to install stuff, leave everything running etc. They could probably do with a restart every month or so too.

(this is just my opinion)

Thanks for all the good feedback guys. The Moto x gen 2 (or rather the Nexus 6) started all this searching.
I'm still leaning toward Sony but will start looking into where I can get a suitable international Moto X2.
Cheers,
James

Do you know exactly which model will work in NZ? Looks like the unlimited at&t version might. Will have to do some research on GSM and LTE bands.
Wish it had more RAM. Other than that, looks perfect for me!

I think the Moto X Pure Edition (T-Mobile version) would be the one that works for us in NZ. That was the one I was looking at.

You'd think so but the Pure edition misses LTE bands 3 and 7 so it wouldn't have LTE in NZ. I think they may now be adding more bands. The at&t and verizon ones have them but the pure edition would be preferable if they add bands 3 and 7.
I'll do some digging.
Cheers, James.

Well, I did it. In the end I went with the M8. The Sony was just a little over budget with xmas coming up. The G3 had the rear speaker. The Oneplus scared me a little and the Moto X2 is too rare in NZ.
Thanks all of you for our input. Especally those who put in a lot of time about the Xperia. I very nearly bought it but it came down to money in the end.

Cheers,
James

Next up I'll be finding out how to flash a GPE ROM onto the M8- i'll see how much I like Sense first though...

When I bought earlier in the year, the Sony was at a clear discount to the M8. What's the current street price for the M8?

The M8 cost $702 shipped. The Z3 was $789. Seems a piffling amount to worry about but I was already right on top of budget at $700.

Literally 2 minutes after I ordered I saw a guy with a Oneplus One. Its a beast, looks premium and only owes him $500 direct(ish) from Oneplus.
I also saw a guy with a Z2 which looks a lot like the Z3 and is pretty stunning.

I don't expect to have any regrets, I was choosing from a good bunch of phones.

Cheers all,
James
