freitasm: Funny. The photo is not about the size. It is about the device on its first day asking for a factory reset.

Certainly didn't happen when I got mine. No inkling of Wi-Fi six months ago though, I wonder if it is an interplay between the Wear app capable of Wi-Fi and the watch software not. Maybe the steel version is different from the original.

Incidentally I had to factory reset my watch twice before it would recognize, download and install 5.0.2.

Before installing 5 the watch had a WiFi option in its Settings menu. It disappeared alert the update, hence my previous question.

Also it seems this factory reset message comes from exactly having the WiFi hardware after the update. Obviously not clear enough to let people know what is going on.

After lauding the SW3 of recent, yesterday I was struck by a start up bug whereby the watch boots and then goes to a black screen and is unresponsive to any input. Not a battery issue because it had just come off the charger. It is the second time this has happened in the six months I have had this device but there was much less panic than the first time. There was nothing I could do except let it run the battery completely flat and turn itself off, then recharge it and it boots perfectly happily. The watch gets warm in the rundown so the processor is obviously churning away pushing ones and zeros around.
Plenty of interweb examples of this occurring. Not sure if it's an Android problem or a hardware problem.

Interesting. Today my SW3 stopped working at 8:50pm. I know because I saw the time on the low power screen and thought strange - asked wife and it was 9:30pm. About 10:30pm (or before) the time disappeared and I put it to charge now.

I am going to uninstall Wear Mini Launcher because a couple of times today it crashed on the device.

Any other suggestion for a good launcher?

Just got my sw3 a few days ago and pretty happy,screen is not stellar but battery life good and i like the overall features. Looking at the 5.1 demo i think i will wait for that launcher which hopefully is not far away.

Just updated my SW3 to 5.1 via the OTA update. I had to reset it before it would find the update and then took about 15 minutes to download to the watch. The wrist gestures, triple tap magnify etc so seem to be working but mini launcher doesn't at the moment. Not such a buggy as stock app drawer is much easier to access. Wi-Fi is activated but haven't been out of Bluetooth range yet when notifications have come in.

I have tried resetting a few times and it is still not seeing the update. Any other tricks to force it ?

Reset as in restart or factory reset? I am holding sending back to Sony PR the unit I have here just so I can check the new version.

You need to do the factory reset. It was on the 5th time that it started downloading for me, I have seen on other forums that it took up to 5 times also to force it.

Mine is currently downloading - I am really hoping the GPS issues are resolved !

Glad your update has arrived. Not sure if it was the number of times you reset it, or just it was available to your batch of watches after the fifth time.
The cloud synch via Wi-Fi works okay but since I swap between my SW3 and GWR, each with its own series of watch faces, it turned into a bit of a pain so I turned it off.
Wrist flick to go through notifications is good. I like the font size adjustment. Triple tap magnification is of limited use but the Google maps app seemed to work well when I went for a walk, but it was using the phone GPS.

Six factory resets so far and nothing. If this is how updates are delivered, it's a fail.

Still think it is done by batch number. It just may be that when the update is ready it requires a reset to get it. I only did one reset, but then I've had my watch since November so it's probably from an earlier batch.
Unless you are willing to sideload the update via adb, which has significant risks of boot loops and bricking, the flawed OTA update system is the safest bet.
Some have complained of increased battery drain after the update. With my watches Wi-Fi turned off it has dropped to 64% after a full day's use.

Go my update a couple of days ago

Have now uninstalled mini launcher as no reason for it now.

I turned on the wrist gestures but had to turn it off again as the battery drain on it was mad, I could normally get 2 or 3 days out of a charge but with wrist gestures on it lasted 8 hours.

Well it could have been wifi as that was set to auto (now off) might try wrist gestures again.
