Thanks for the feedback on Expansys. Unfortunately they're the only ones I can find that stock the variant I'm after - Leather Red and 4G band 28 support.

Hi turM,

Sorry, I didn't realise you were after the red leather version, strangely enough, I can't see it listed on the UK version of the Expansys site, only seems to be available exclusively from Vodafone on pay monthly deals at the moment.

TurM: Does anyone have any experience in purchasing from Expansys? Any hidden costs I should be aware of before ordering?

You'll be pinged with GST. I've bought with Expansys but both times was less than the threshold for attracting GST.

Thanks for the heads up.

Looking at ValueBasket now - seems they've an "interesting" history here on GZ, but I'm super tempted by their $879.99 price:
http://www.valuebasket.co.nz/en_NZ/LG-G4-H815T-LTE-Hexa-Core-32GB-SIM-Free-/-Never-Locked-(Leather-Red)/mainproduct/view/18926-AA-RD
The only thing holding me back at the moment is the fact that while they've listed the model as H815T, they don't specify 4G band 28 on the 'specifications'. Have emailed them from clarification, awaiting a response...

Took the plunge and ordered my G4 through ValueBasket in the weekend. Confirmed beforehand that they have plenty of stock and it can be shipped immediately. They said that they take care of GST at their end, but I'm not entirely sure how that might be possible, so fully prepared to pay another 15% + handling on top of the $879.

I bought a red leather through Value Basket on Thursday, arrived on Monday morning.

It replaced a Galaxy S2, so obviously it's light years ahead of my old potato phone. It's nice to be able to use google maps without the phone overheating and rebooting :)

I'm pretty impressed with the LG G4 reviews I have seen.

Thinking of picking one up in the UK when I am over that way in August to replace my Note 3.

What shop's over there let you claim back VAT?

Hi TurM and Borg.

curious to know how your experience with ValueBasket was?
Did you get the H815T with band 28?
What about GST?
Seriously considering ordering one :-)

Thanks

Clove Technology UK. I emailed Clove and their H815 does include Band 28 and they have updated their website to reflect this, all done within a few hours of me sending the email. Sample price (incl shipping) GBP425 = NZD907, GST + import charges = NZD185, Total $1092. About the same cost as the NZ grey importers on pricespy. Pays your money and takes your choice I guess. Clove have been around for years (bought Psion 3 then 5mx of them xx (censored) years ago), and think they still have a good reputation. Any problems would mean sending back to the UK at your cost whereas the NZ importers have local costs (but check the T&Cs).

ValueBasket. I emailed VB asking if they issue a GST receipt and have not heard back from them as yet. Does anyone have a GST receipt - with valid GST number from them?

H815/H815T. These 2 are slightly different, and although I cannot be certain, it seems the 4G bands for a particular model are the same wherever they are sold. I guess websites sometimes only list bands that are of interest in the country of sale. Pretty certain these are the model and bands of interest to NZ:

H815: 4G: FDD (B1)2100/(B3)1800/(B4)1700/(B5)850/(B7)2600/(B8)900/(B17)700/(B20)800/(B28)700 MHz
H815T: 4G: FDD (B1)2100/(B3)1800/(B4)1700/(B5)850/(B7)2600/(B8)900/(B17)700/(B20)800/(B28)700 MHz, TDD: (B40)2300 MHz

H815T is a Hong Kong special and the bands are listed on the LG HK website. My guess is that any updates may get seeded to the device with the bigger base first and this is likely to be the H815.

H815 is also the only version to so far (I think), to have Root access and that includes an official LG method to Unlock Bootloader - for those interested. See http://www.naldotech.com/how-to-root-lg-g4-h815-using-supersu/ or web search. This again may point to more LG support for this model. Root tends to be very model specific, so root for H815 may not work for H815T.

ValueBasket & GST. VB have replied and they do not issue a GST receipt as they are not registered in NZ. They pay the courier the import costs for goods over $400. This means if you can claim GST back, their prices are the same as current prices on pricespy. If not they are cheap, but there is no local base if things go wrong.

I've ordered 2 items from Value Basket. A Z3 and a G4. Neither were charged GST.

The Z3 experience was slow (2 weeks delivery) The G4 was ordered on a thursday and arrived monday morning. And yes, it's the 815T :)

I went with the H815 as soon as I knew it had been given an official unlock. Ordered on Saturday last week and still waiting - status is currently:

That is borderline extortionate. Wow.

So my G4 finally arrived on the 22nd of June. Apparently there were issues with stock and whatnot, but once it was actually sent, it got here pretty quickly.

Very happy to report that ValueBasket do indeed "take care" of GST and customs fees (how they do this, I do not know), so no additional cost was incurred on my side. I paid what was advertised on their website at the time - $908NZD.

This phone is incredible, by the way.
