Kopkiwi: A 4 year old phone isn't really a great frame of reference there champ.

Well, it's not for the camera either - why should the UI be any different?!

Because Touchwiz has changed massively in 4 years and I don't believe the S3 has received the same updates

I am looking to purchase a android handset at the moment.  My purpose will be mostly taking photos of my child, minimum browsing, spotify on commute to work & skype.

Those who own Huawei P9 would you recommend this phone?

Would recommend. If not the P9 at least the HTC 10.

I bought this Huawei P9 leather case for my phone.

After looking in-store I did some googling of P9 reviews and they seem mostly positive, but one said there is no gorilla glass on the screen or covering the camera lenses - it's just regular glass

Hi Andrew027,

I can confirm it is Gorilla Glass.

Plus (as you've said) you can register free for the Huawei Screen Promise for extra protection on us.

Have anyone notice a behaviour where some apps/services are terminated or no notifications happe?

For example Norton Mobile Security can be used to scan Google Play apps before installation. The service is enabled as an Accessbility Service. It works for a few minutes then later on I find out the settings is back to Off. Is the OS turning those settings off?

The happens with LastPass.

Another thing is notifications. I have not received notifications from PayPal, SproutSocial, Instagram, Amazon, FB Messenger and a couple of other apps, even though these are fully enabled. I wonder what's going on here.

And no, I do not use "cleaners". Or perhaps the Huawei Phone Manager does its own thing without user's interference?

Ok, the notifications issue might be related with power usage - the profile disables most apps while screen is off/foreground.

Changed this now, let's see how it goes.

I assume the P9 with free watch is no longer on offer, seems the link makes no mention of it.

I think that was a pre-order offer only. I can see quite a few people ordered that, kept the watch and sold the phone on Trade Me (and even a couple here on Geekzone).

This why you can't have nice things...

I don't have this phone, but it seems common in Marshmellow because of a feature called Doze. Infuriantly it affects email sync with exchange servers! (and other types too). Rebooting, changing from Wifi to 4G and back again, or sending an email to yourself seems to get the job done!

Hi Nick

Thanks for the response. In my original post I did ask if anyone could confirm the type of glass, so thanks for clearing that up. I really liked the look of the phone when I played with it in-store and the camera looked exceptional (I notice it was first or first equal in every test in Stuff's camera comparison of the P9, Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone SE). With the toughened glass confirmed, this is very likely to be my next phone.

I ordered P9 with free watch on 6th June and got mine delivered today. I placed ordered on this link & contacted the online store to confirm the they honor the smartwatch deal.

This is my 1st Huawei handset. I am going to keep both the watch & handset for own use.

Got the case here today... Not bad for US$23.99 at all! Pretty happy with it.
