I never used the old Metservice app because it contained much less data than the webpage, and never what I actually wanted to know.  I resorted to use the desktop version of the page on mobile which was slow to load but had everything i needed.

Hopefully the new app has all the same data as the webpage.

Re option to remove ads - that's not planned at this stage, but never say never! Note that we do have a pretty strict policy on ads - their content, placement and whether they detract from the app's core purpose - so do give it a shot before casting your final judgement :)

I would prefer a paid option as well.. considering I also already paid for current version.

Do you have an Tablet screenshot?

I use the android app weatherbomb. $2 a year to make it adfree. Or the mobile site of metservice. But I prefer looking at pictures rather than reading words.

I use the YR.no android app.

In my experience the Norwegians do a great job of forecasting NZ weather.

I have half a dozen locations saved and I set the home-screen widget to wherever I am.

Main down side to YR.no is it only updates at around 7am and 7pm apart from that the forecast are good

Well after saying ^ I notice Metservice hasn't updated Hastings since 11pm so 7am and 7pm isn't so bad after all

Hi again - the Hastings forecast was updated at 11.24am today ... BUT if you do see a forecast that looks like it's a bit old, rest assured that it's because the forecast has not been changed (i.e. the same situation is expected). That said, I personally would like to see the same forecast re-issued so that people know it IS the latest one. One for the ideas queue!

Those of you who like more detail will be pleased to hear that our new app will have a regular programme of updates and new features (and you can also customise what you see and in what order). If you don’t see something you think we should include, please let us know by submitting your Idea in the Ask MetService community: NEW MetService Weather App 2017.

Re tablet - the new version of the app is not supported for iPad or Android tablets. If you have a Windows tablet, you can download our Windows app here. If you have a tablet, definitely use the full site with all the bells and whistles :)

A note on YR.NO ... remember that they're using model forecasts so, while it's a good model (we use it as one of the three main ones driving guidance in our forecast room), it hasn't had the benefit of local expertise applied. Our new app also includes model info - 2-hourly for the next 48 hours - as well as meteorologist forecasts for 5 days and a further 5 days of model forecasts (just as you get on metservice.com).

Cheers

As a paid up user of the old app, I would very much like to see a no ads version of the new app come out.

+2 for a paid no ads version. Adverts make an app feel unprofessional and cheap.

I usually won't install an ap with ads unless there's either Pro version with no ads, or an IAP to remove them.

Please, we're happy to pay a few bucks.

Pie in the sky thinking...

I'd love to be also able to see local weather stations.

Until recently I shared my data from my home weather station with the UK Metservice which also displays personal weather station information.

We do offer this on the website - Your Weather - but not on the app. I think it would be a great feature (I have my own station too) and will suggest it for the development roadmap :)

Model or not Yr.No forecasts in my experience are more site specific and accurate outside the main centres than MetService's free forecasts.

I know from experience that MetService's commercial site specific forecasts are very, very good.

Another +1 for a paid no adds version, was happy to purchase the old app and actively avoid apps with adds.
