Interesting. One says the Mate 10 Pro has a oleophobic coating, another says the Mate 10 does not have. I wonder if it's different versions?

Has anyone made the switch from iphone to the p10? looking to change for the better battery life as my iphones have always been abysmal but iOS has been the only reason keeping me with them..

Has android improved much since the galaxy s2 / htc one days as they were the last two android phones I owned

Cool, it comes with bonus Bluetooth speaker and headphones - remember the Mate 10 Pro doesn't have a 3.5" jack. I found out this the hard way when on a plane and tried to use my Bose NC headphones on the way to Auckland a few weeks back (while doing the review). Needless to say I have since replace the Bose QC25 with a pair of QC35.

Speaking of headphones - in addition to embracing Google's Project Treble with Oreo on Mate 9/Mate 10/Pro/presumably the P10/Plus as well, Huawei has implemented all of the optional high-quality Bluetooth audio codecs in EMUI 8. This means those phones will support AptX, AptX HD, and Sony's LDAC (which goes all the way up to 990Kbps). Doesn't help the QC35 as those are AAC and SBC only, but it makes a tremendous difference in testing with Sony's 1000X/1000XM2 LDAC cans. Do recommend.

So I have a question or 2.

These phones use "supercharge" which sounds like it's Huawei's own power block and USB C cable is needed for it to work (abit like the dash charge from Oneplus).

Some people are reporting it will also do "quick charge" on top on standard charging. Can anyone confirm this?

Also does anyone know where you can buy extra power bricks/cables and car charger for supercharge in NZ as I can't seem to find anyone that does :(

I have notice that aliexpress has the car charger but I don't really want to buy off there just incase it's a fake.

Doesn't need a special cable, just the Supercharge adaptor plus any (decent quality) USB-C cable. Huawei NZ doesn't sell them separately yet.

Is not Qualcomm QC cross-compatible in my testing of the Mate 9, but will merrily charge faster from higher-rated chargers with higher output.

You can get "decent quality" cables which are not built to handle the higher current draw of the fast charging device.

(Easily tested on Nexus or Pixel phones which show, on locked devices, "Charging Rapidly" or "Charging")

When I say 'decent quality' I mean 'fit for purpose from a reputable brand', e.g. the ones supplied in-box from OEMs like LG/Motorola/Huawei/Sony/Samsung/HTC/Google/Nokia or properly-certified standalone cables from the likes of Belkin. Would never recommend buying a USB-C cable from an unknown brand.

Bluetooth stack continues to fail. If you disconnect the headphones and connect again the media output may not correctly go to the headphone - unless you force close the app and turn Bluetooth off and on again. Then it will do it. For comparison the Nokia 8 will always correctly redirect media audio output to the headphone regardless if app is open or not when you connect. Also using the volume button on the headphones don't change the volume on the handset itself - you can see the media slider doesn't move, while on the Nokia 8 it does.

Also the power management continues to be too aggressive and if you don't whitelist the apps you need always running in two different locations - good luck getting notifications.

Other than this, the camera is the greatest one I've seem around and produces brilliant photos. The screen is beautiful. Charging is very fast and NFC works really well for Android Pay (for comparison the metal-body Nokia 8 has some problems depending on how you tap the phone).

I've reported the Bluetooth and power problems to Huawei before but always got the "works as designed" response.
