honest question... what does samsung cloud backup on top of google's? can you access this backup if your next phone is no longer a samsung?

Messages/calanders/call logs etc.
Even backs up APKs of your apps and app data for each (Google is very hit and miss for this)

Again I think of it as more of an extension of googles offerings.

In regards to can I access it from a non samsung phone well clearly not but why would I want to? Lol.

If I were to switch to an alternative brand I would probably have to use whatever migration tools that brand provides I guess.

but according to this, samsung-cloud-no-longer-supports-third-party-app-backups...

so it backs up samsung bloatware on top of what google does?

Quite like the look of the Google Home Hub but can someone who has the G Home tell me how it operates if you already have Google Assistant on your phone, do they compete with each other to see who can answer you first? smile

my home device gets priority.

As above, and if you have more than one Google Home, one, normally the closest (by received volume I assume), answers.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I see the Pixel 3 is now up for pre-order on Googles Australian site, yet nothing here (again). Does anyone know why Google is ignoring this country completely? The last phone devices they sold here were Nexus's.. nothing since..

We're being forced into the hands of the 3rd party importers

im wondering if there world map has new zealand missing from it. Common problem though out the world.

I've got 7 GH (5 are minis) and have ordered the Home Hub.

Also have a pixel 2xl (will probably trade it in on the 3xl in July when my plan allows, and bugs are gone) and a 2013 nexus.

The nearest actual GH normally answers, but if you just want to talk to your phone, you activate assistant with the mic button and then just talk directly.

kyhwana2: Probably because no one would buy them because of the price? Pixel 3 will be what, $1500-1600? NZD

This.

I bought almost every Nexus phone until they went "Pixel" and doubled the price.

Good luck with that, Google.

Just finished setting up my Home Hub. It was similar to every other Home/Chromecast device I have set up. That is, via the Google Home App on my tablet.
First impression is, it's smaller than I anticipated. Sitting beside my 8" Samsung Tab S2 it looks diminutive.
However, I didn't actually like the settings I used initially, so I thought I'd just dive in and change a few things, but can't see where to do things like change the ambient display from clock to picture, and other things like that.
So I thought I would just reset it to factory. But how? No info in the box. No info on Google website. Eventually found a YouTube video. Apparently you just have to hold the centre of the volume rocker down for more than ten seconds.

I may start a new thread once I've had a bit more of a chance for a play.

Edit: Found the settings, may not have to reset after all.
Oh, and there is a warranty card in the box that addresses both Australian and NZ consumer law and the 2 year warranty applying to both countries. So I'm hoping it's a sign that the arrival of the Google Home devices in NZ is imminent.
