Looks like your phone is orphaned until you check it in. I found the following at this link. I do not know if this will work. If you're not using your phone on Vodafone's network, I don't think it will work. Telecom don't have any Android phones (TIKO)....and appear to lovers of Windows Mobile....

http://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/board/message?board.id=AndroidGeneral&message.id=7631

Matt Stephenson (in NZ) did this on his phone and says it worked. Your experience may vary.

Use it with caution.

To make your Android phone "Check In" for the latest software, follow the steps below:

Important note: Developer, non-T-Mobile software versions and rooted devices cannot receive the Over The Air (OTA) update.

  1. Go to the homescreen.

  2. Tap on Dialer - to open the dialer screen.

  3. From the dialer type *#*#checkin#*#*   (that is *#*#2432546#*#*

  4. If the ‘checkin' is successful, the device will display "checkin result success"
       Note
: Checkin results may take up to 12 hours to display

  5. Return to the homescreen.

  6. Press the Menu key.

  7. Select Settings.

  8. Scroll down, and select About phone.

  9. Select System updates.

  10. If an update is available, you should see the update downloading.

  11. When the download is complete, you will be prompted to Install (now or later)

thanks linuxluver! thanks zocster!

no, i dont have g2 atm Wink since nokia n900 is delayed, i am thinking of getting cheap android phones either magic or hero. atm, i am leaning towards magic because of OTA update, and android 2.0 will have multitouch support. hardware wise, my understanding is they both use the same hardware except for 3.2MP vs 5.0MP.

interesting to know that you can get OTA with parallel import phones with vodafone. maybe i should just go with magic... any thoughts?

There are 2 Magic versions.

    * a HTC version with PVT32A, 288MB RAM, and HTC software additions such as Exchange support, PDF Viewer, and QuickOffice. (PVT32A)
    * a Google version with PVT32B, 192MB RAM and 'Google' branding. (PVT32B) < Vodafone NZ retail sells this, at least mine is.

IMPORTANT: These versions require different boot images and wireless lan kernel modules - so you need to determine which one of these you have before you go installing new roms.

To determine which rom you have, please Power off your phone (hold power for a couple of seconds and select Power Down) - once off hold down the Back button and Press Power. This will drop you into Fastboot mode and the top of the screen should have all of your ROM information, including which PVT you have, SPL and Radio versions.

Oops that didn't really answer your question, I'd go for the tattoo myself.

Hi

I got a HTC Hero through Parallel Imported a few weeks back and I still have not had 1.6 pushed through. Well after 12 hours I still have had no checkin results either.

Any ideas

Also would the phone need to be route accessed to get the update?

Regards, Scott

Wow ok, thanks for the quick response
Looking forward to 2.0 then.

Do you know why they chose this for the Hero?
