kevorkian: Hey guys,

....

I cant help but wonder if they're having issues with branding the ROM, or if they have some inside info that Motorola will be pushing out 2.2 extremely soon.

....

-Kevorkian

I wonder if the delay may be with Google enabling turn-by-turn Nav for New Zealand. That is a big part of the offering (via Moto-Nav).

I had a "blip" a few nights ago when the Nav function on my Android v2.2 appeared to start working....then crashed....then resumed saying it wasn't enabled for my region.

testing....1.2.3....testing.

As mentioned above, the new release date should be announced late next week.

So anyways, this weekend I cancelled my XT contract and signed up for Vodafone.  I was given a free X10Mini for doing so, it's going straight on trademe along side my Nokia e75.  And i've placed an order for a Nexus One which should arrive this week sometime.

:)

Good luck waiting forever for Telecom to get their act together :P

Hey :)

Being that it is now the end of the week (2nd half at least) I was wondering if anybody had the latest on if a date has been selected for the milestone to be released? Or any information regarding the motorola in NZ being released?

Thanks

Nexus One is a nice phone. I really like mine.

A couple little niggles I've found:

1. If lying flat in bed with the phone tipped forward and toward me, the keyboard can get confused sometimes. So I tip it back as though I were standing up and it seems to come right.

2. I have two batteries. If charging the phone overnight with the phone shut down and after several hours unplug it and swap in the second battery and then carry on charging, on startup later the phone seems to forget the date and time. It presents January 6th, 1980 at 13:00. Even though told to get the time from the network. Usually it does....sometimes in a minute or two and sometimes much later. But sometimes I can't wait and manually set the date and time.

But if I leave the phone turned on while charging....then wake in the middle of the night and shut it down, unplug it, and swap the batteries.....it does NOT lose the time. It's as though there is a wee battery inside that remembers date and time long enough to swap a battery (at least)....but which goes flat if the phone has been powered off for several hours (I guess)....even though it's charging. It's no big issue to leave the phone on overnight...or to set the time in the morning. This only happens if i swap batteries after the phone has been off for hours.  If I power it off and leave the same battery in, then the date / time aren't lost. If I just power it down during the day and swap in a fresh battery it also keeps the date / time.

Neither are big issues....but I noticed them. Other than that it's by far the most awesome phone I've ever owned (or used).

Wow sad. Oh well. If Desire comes out beforehand that will get my money :)

I'm hoping the delay is Google getting sorted out for turning on turn-by-turn GPS navigation for NZ.

I "heard".... from someone who works in a telecom retail store and was given a milestone unit to play with by motorola (he's currently using it as his everyday phone), that there's a bug in the outgoing call DSP which pretty much means the person on the other end can't hear you at all.  They're trying to get all fancy with background noise reduction and such and have buggered it up.
My source has been known from time to time to spin up some stories... so don't take this as fact, it is far from it... just what I've heard.

I was looking at the X10, liked it, saw the Milestone, liked it more.  But have just heard the Motorola droid (our milestone) is about to be discontinued: http://mashable.com/2010/07/16/droid-end-of-life/

NZ should really just keep up with the rest of the world.

Last week Telecom told me that there were no known issues with the phone itself, although there may have been some problems discovered since.

It may not be good to equate the Droid with the Milestone. Droid is a CDMA phoneand being sold into the US market against a new range of very high-spec phones.

The Milestone is GSM and may have a longer "shelf-life" out here in the ROW where CDMA is dead or dying.

We'll see. I can see Motorola wanting to upgrade their line rapidly to keep up with HTC and Samsung (in particular).

So now that this Milestone has been discontinued and probably wont be getting an over the air update to 2.2... AND google still hasnt released turn by turn navigation for New Zealand. I wonder what Telecom is going to do.

I can't help but giggle at all of this. By the way, I freakin love my Nexus One. :P
