1eStar: Wondering if there might be a datum/projection difference in the RSM data to the google mapping data. When getting down to the nitty gritty the dots on the map aren't exactly where the towers are. I located two prominent towers in Timaru this afternoon and they are in the order of several 100 meters out. I've taken some screenshots and will try to upload... Could of course be the original data isn't super accurate...

Did you have your own GPS enabled? If the layer doesn't know exactly where you are, it may not place other items precisely.

j0nz: This is now available to the public through the layar application download... have fun!

Awesome.

This is - seriously - the only layer I've seen to date for NZ that would make Layar a must-have app for my phone.

Well done!

Excellent layer.

From my very unscientific observations, the vodafone towers are approx 300-400m south of where they are mapped and the telecom towers some 100-200m. This is in map view. Using the reality view can be wildly out due to positional inaccuracy and I don't think the compass is super accurate in the orientation you use layar on my 3GS. The positional data inaccuracy is likely to be a NZMG/WGS datum or projection issue. You'll need a surveyor to explain the difference.

Interesting.

On my Nexus One, the towers near my house are accurately placed. The NZ Comms is depicted as on the SE corner of Birkdale Rd & Beach haven Rd. The Vodafone tower is accurately depicted between the Challenge petrol station and the Coptic Church...and the Telecom tower is accurately placed on the street behind the Coptic Church. The only other one I can clearly recall is also accurately depicted at the intersection of Eskdale Rd and Lauderdale (or is it Verbena - whichever, it's right where the layer says it should be).
