Has anyone tried out the wireless tethering available on version 2.2? As in, your phone can provide wifi internet access to your laptop.

I bought my Desire from Expert Infotech and the update came today. All sweet except that I had a few hiccups getting the APN's going again. In the end the problem was either that I needed the APN to be set to "internet" instead of "www.vodafone.net.nz" as mentioned above, or that I'm using SwiftKey beta as my keyboard, it leaves spaces at the end of words and that was buggering things up. Not sure which did the trick as I changed them both at the same time and it started working fine after that.

The tethering works wonderfully well (at least from my Win7 laptop), it's easy to set up and is fast.

My favourite thing so far is music player controls in the lock screen.

That's interesting - what is it about the controls that you like? Other than the green icon for absent album graphics I can't see anything hugely different...

Android user, software developer, a semi-typical (not a gamer) geek, and a Bernese Mountain Dog nut!

Moving apps to SD. I went through this http://thegreencodeblog.com/2010/06/12/how-to-force-apps-to-move-to-the-sd-card-on-froyo/ and it works perfectly.

Not all my apps could be moved before doing this, there are a couple that I cant move like Google Maps but otherwise pretty much everything I have downloaded can be moved to the SD card.

early report on things I've noticed with froyo:

1. I thought the desire was fast before ...now its kicked into another gear and is 2-5x faster... video playback heaps better...websites just load faster....and did I say it was FASTER!!!
2. ...better reception ...getting full bars now all the time....
3. HD camcorder 720p
4. new apps - appsharing, flashlight, news and weather, videos, voice search, wifi hotspot.
5. calculator widget is cool...
6. swype works after a reinstall.
7. not many apps with install on SD card....
8. checkout new app - adobe flash showcase to check out flash player 10.1
9. need to add apn again after upgrade...

maybe a list of what can be installed toSD would be useful - here's my list...

barcaode scanner.
google sky maps
retro camera
rockplayer
APN backup and restore

It's probably better just to use the "internet" APN (ie name: internet rather than www.vodafone.net.nz) as when you go to other networks, use overseas SIM cards etc. most networks have it standard so no reconfiguration necessary.

MMS is an utter mystery to me, I can never ever receive a pxt. All I get are generic network failures. does anyone else have this problem?

Well, cant say i noticed a huge difference other than the home screen. Nothing noticeably faster , a few more apps installed that i probably wont use (flashlight, news etc).
I did notice i can have wifi hotspot now which is good, something i can always use at conferences or on the road :D

Try default again under the first APN type. Mine is set to default and the internet works fine. If I remove the word default I cant send an MMS to myself

No joy. I tried "default" and "Default" under the Vodafone NZ APN. That stopped my data connection and I still couldn't receive an MMS.

Also have an A8183 and no updates as expected due to Telstra ROM. Tempted to root and flash a custom 2.2 Official ROM.

As expected, the official OTA update breaks root due to a new HBoot version or something without an exploit (yet) in it.

If you root and flash a 2.2 rom from XDA then you can keep root and have FroYo.
